Splash Mountain Merchandise

There's nothing Splash Mountain related on ShopDisney, so my guess is they're trying to get rid of whatever they have in the parks/warehouse and then that's it. Just a guess.

There are literally photos of the Splash merchandise on eBay that are so obviously in Frontierland. Didn't even make it out of the park before people posted in for sale. I collect - or accumulate - all sorts of Disney stuff. I've been watching the Splash merch on eBay. Plenty for sale, but it's not all moving, at least not the $100 stuffed animals nor the $50-$60 pins that were probably $9, nor the $100 mug that was less than $20. They could easily put a purchase limit on all of this, but why? My guess is they want to get rid of it.

supply and demand at work.... im sure after the surge these prices will go way down... would be nice if everyone would refrain and make them get stuck with it. But i can understand fans wanting it... hopefully they have patience.

You're "talking" out of both sides of your mouth. On the one hand, you say that WDW should be allowed to sell the quantity they want. Then on the other hand, complain about the marked up prices on eBay.

But if Disney doesn't limit the quantify of merch bought, then don't punish guests who show up and buy their products in bulk. Yet, that's what they're doing. They gladly take your money and allow you to walk out of the park with a huge haul then are surprised when people resell their stuff. Come on. To cite one example, why do you think AP magnets are limited to an AP with a valid pass? Now, it won't stop anyone from selling their magnet on eBay but it will limit the damage of grabbing, say, 300 of them at one time. Yet with the Splash Mountain merch, buy up all you want. You ask about Target regulating the quantity of hairdryers. Yet that's exactly what's happening in supermarkets during COVID. If supermarkets can limit you to one TP package, then certainly WDW can limit you to one Splash Mountain plush.

Sorry, how am I talking out of both sides of my mouth? Great tag line, but I'm not.

I'm saying that Disney as a corporation has the right to sell as much of their merch to whomever at whatever price, and you can't expect them to restrict their own sales to stop price gougers. If they do, GREAT! That's above and beyond. It's not their problem that people hoard and then mark them up on the secondary market. I'm saying that Disney shouldn't be criticized for not restricting secondary markets, just like they shouldn't be restricted when selling these products. Who are we to say how much of their product they can or can't sell. 🤪 They don't care if you use their product, sleep with it, drink with it, put it in your cabinet, or resell it. That's not their business. All the care about is that they just got $24.95 for something that cost them $0.35 not including all their overhead.

Are you really comparing the sale of a hygiene necessity to a Splash Mountain plush? Supermarkets restricting TP sales is necessary for the general health of the public. It's a necessary hygiene product. A SM plush isn't a necessity, unless you're wiping your @$$ with it, but man that's hard on your household plumbing. 🤣

And let me reiterate, I can't stand the vultures who hoard a product for resale, but it's capitalism, supply and demand as @ppete1975 so eloquently stated. Hopefully those who hoard the merch get stuck with it and sell it for below their actual cost, if at all. You can hate Disney for selling their product without restrictions, but then why be a "fan" and on these boards if you hate the company. Doesn't make sense to me.

I managed to get someone down to $150 which still royally ****ed me off, but i really wanted them and they were my graduation gift to myself
Yep. There's one of us suckers born every minute. 😁 Trust me, I've been there. I'm a sucker for Haunted Mansion merch. I see something I don't have, but really want, and then it becomes a quest. It's a disease, and I've got it. Oh geez, sorry... I shouldn't be saying that my love HM merch is a disease at this point in time. It's more of a fever.... oh crap... 🤪

Then stop complaining about price gougers overselling Disney products on eBay who hoard the products for themselves. I wouldn’t buy off eBay. I would legitimately buy direct from WDW if they had the inventory and only one for myself, whatever it is. So while you love capitalism at WDW, you seem to hate it on eBay, huh? A consistent point of view would be either WDW sells in bulk/resellers offload it at high prices on eBay or Disney limits quantities in their stores/don’t encourage anyone to purchase from eBay. So you would think you want want Disney to limit bulk purchasing to discourage resellers.

Not so with you. And, yes, TP Is flying off the shelves in stores requiring stores to limit one per customer. So if it’s okay for product to fly off the shelves in Disney stores stop complaining about resellers selling said products at exorbitant prices at eBay.

Dude, what are you talking about??? If you're going to argue with me, at least represent my argument correctly and stop making things up. I never said that people should be restricted from price gouging on eBay. I said...

Where in that statement do you see that I said I only love capitalism for Disney, but hate it for people who sell on eBay??? I don't like when people take advantage of others, but it's capitalism, supply and demand. People corner the supply, and demand sets the price. It is what it is. Doesn't make people nice for taking advantage of others, but I believe I'm realizing why you're arguing the point now. Happy eBaying! Hope you make a bundle on your SM merch! You shouldn't allow people to get you on video like that if you're so defensive about it.

Why must everything devolve into an argument on this site.

The photos I have seen from cast member previews and AP previews of people carrying out enormous amounts of Splash Mountain plush or anything from the attraction is a disgrace. Does anyone think that these items will be restocked or that the Briar Patch will remain closed? I wonder how this will be handled if the attraction remains open for some time. I hope these people can't resell any of it.

that’s part of why I’m hoping for the extended delay. Make those jerks sweat with their $1000 pile of plushy Brer Foxes.😂

I am unfortunately one of the eBay suckers who occasionally has to “have” something. Usually on the hunt for a Reyn Spooner Disney shirt for DH. I was also one of those who had my eye on a pair of Space Mt. Minnie ears when they were released—sucks that they were only releasing in the parks 😩 But I was not willing to shell out the $$ they wanted for them. Same with some other Disney-related collectibles—some are a good deal, some are not; depends on what it’s worth to you the consumer.

LOL if you don't make it to MK before the Mouse sells out of merch, then don't rush to Ebay and pay double/triple the price right away. Wait until the Splash Mountain hype has died down and then buy the same stuff on Ebay for much cheaper prices. Buying items like this on the secondary market when the items demand is spiking makes no sense.

Congratulations on your graduation!!! High School or College? Sorry covid probably ruined part of the experience. What did you end up purchasing as your gift?

I think Disney only got into the act when the APs were using their AP discount to buy the goods, then reselling on eBay. If the AP buys at full mark-up, I don't think Disney gives a Ratatouille.

This can be very true, but not always unfortunately. It depends on the scarcity. Plush rabbits and such, definitely worth waiting out and the prices will eventually come to earth after the craze and people flood eBay because the see the ridiculous asking prices. I've seen it happen so many times. If they release an "In the parks only" item that is limited, the price only goes up. This is very sound advice though!

The one piece of HM merch that I really wanted, was always sold out on shopDisney, and on eBay for minimum $200-the replica HM sign. Fortunately, we went to WDW last November, and they had 1 left at Memento Mori-for $80. I grabbed it, and ran to the checkout with it like I was a running back holding the ball trying to score lol. As bad as I wanted it, there was no way I was paying 3-4x the WDW selling price on eBay for it.

Excellent story, and congrats on the score! 😁 I got mine with the occasional sale offered on ShopDisney. I actually bought a couple of them, but have just one hanging right now. I have a plan though. 🙃

And that's why I'm glad I have this, plus the WDW shirt I got back in 2016
