It's not new track. They are replacing the conveyor lifts that are rusted out. I saw them in pieces behind Splash this morning while working the marathon.
hopefully if they get the lapbars installed that means the ride wont keep stopping and i wont have to keep hearing "looks like brer fox and brer bear are causing some commotion upstream" or whatever :brick:cuz i was told that kept happening because people couldnt control their kids and they'd stand up or try to splash in the water and whatnot. hopefully now that will get better cuz they'll be forced to sit. but seriously that happens every single time i've ridden it.
It's called PARENTING, people! It's called DISCIPLINE! Those parents should try it every now and then! I, too, see SO many wild animal kids that parents are just letting run amok (or however you spell it!). It's disgusting.
According to my roommate who works splash mountain, they ARE adding lapbars to the boats because "too many people have been getting out of the boats near the big lift." I don't know how good this source is to some of you but IMO I think it's pretty reliable.
I think the idea that the boats are getting lapbars is a given, but the question is if it is coming with this refurb or a future one. I thought that be bars got bumped by the lift replacement this year.

Parenting is dead. I'm amazed at what 85% of the kids in the parks are allowed to do.
I would have been black and blue when we left if I were these kids, not to mention I'd never be back to WDW.
If you suggest beating your children is the proper way to "parenting", I strongly disagree.
I hope you weren't trying to say that though... :lookaroun

Looking at those pics, it looks very much like the track pieces that line the flume in the station. I have spent many hours staring at those when it's slow. :lookaroun Some of them have been looking shoddy lately (that's simply a layman's observation, not a statement on safety at all!) And I know they've had to put some temporary pieces on those. For awhile you could see the temp pieces clearly, because it was a big white piece that stood out drastically in contrast to the rest.
On the lap bars... well, everyone's kind of half right. Lap bars are coming, just not yet. They won't be set for this refurb, because they haven't finished manufacturing all the new logs yet. But they are coming, eventually.
It's not just that... it's SLOW PEOPLE. When you are asked to get in and sit down quickly, please do so! That's also a generic "cascade" spiel (in addition to an intrusion or actual "breakdown"), so any time there's a backup in station, that will go off. It plays 3 times in a row, even, if the person in tower isn't paying attention enough to stop it! All lifts and belts will stop. Obviously, sometimes this can't be helped, as in the case of guests with disabilities, problems in station, etc. But many, MANY times, it is simply a guest getting in that feels the need to wipe off the seat, play musical seats with their family, rearrange all their belongings before sitting down, etc. People don't realize that the reason they're being asked to sit down quickly is that the computer gives each log an average dispatch interval of 11.5 seconds (thus, 23 seconds total with 2 dispatches, 34.5 seconds with 3 dispatches). That means go FAST. Fall too far behind that, and you get the cascade, the stop, the spiel, etc. Thus, if you are asked to get in and have a seat quickly, it isn't that the CM is trying to be pushy or rude - they're just trying to keep all these ride stops from happening and driving the people already on the ride nuts!!!
Wow. Thanks for the VERY helpful insight, Kirsten. Apparently, you've been a "button-pusher" for far too long at Splash
I would say that they need to put more signage up in the queue, explaining ho important it is to GET IN AND SIT DOWN FAST, but it would be a waste of time and effort. Too many stupid and inconsiderate people....and the rest of us already understand, to a level, how rides work (it's all about timing).
Thanks!
Easier said than done when you are 6'2- 6'3...Those logs are a tight fit, and the CMs always want to rush you.
Ok, ok. It's different when you have a physical (or vertical, in your case) impairment....versus someone who forgot to put their camera away while standing in line for 60 minutes, or thinks they need to sit on the right after they got in the log first, or doesn't realize it's yet another "sit down" ride. :hammer:
