MAMA, DON'T WHIP LITTLE BUFORD
Lyrics and music by Kenneth C. Burns and Henry D. Haynes

Mama don't whip little Buford.
Mama don't pound on his head.
Mama don't whip little Buford.
I think you should shoot him instead.

[Henry]

He makes a habit out of it.

And I was disciplined a BIT like that, and it scared me straight. I'm fine now, I know it was part of parenting and growing up, never thought differently about my parents. I'm happy they raised me the way they did.
Ditto.

If anything, it scared some respect into me.

I'm fine to, but never abused. You can be raised fine without having to resort to beating your child. I can't even believe we're having a discussion on if beating your child is okay... and I have to defend against beating your child... especially on a Splash Mountain thread

There is a difference in discipline and beating a child.

Are you saying that you were never disciplined?

Are you still a child?

Well, I'm 17. I'm treated as an adult though. No physical harm.

And the discipline earlier in the thread was spankings and lashing, and I only imagine what happened to people if they were scared of what might happen if they did something wrong.

I was raised with the mentality of 'you act good, you'll get good; act bad, you won't get anything'. And I think that method works- and no one has to do anything unfortunate.

So, you will beat your kids? Because spanking IS beating your kids. You are physically harming them.

I totally disagree with this method of parenting. I couldn't imagine how I would of grown up if my parents laid a hand on me- I would think totally differently of them.

It's not worth it in my eyes- or the law's.

No, I'd spank my kids. If u call it beating than to you I would be "beating" them, but I really wouldnt be. It's not like I went to school bruised up, and neither will my kids. And if you don't understand it or agree with it, then dont. It's not gonna change how I raise my kids. And I dont think badly of my parents cuz I know I needed what I got, for the most part.

Perhaps that's why we have so many spoiled brats running around WDW. They aren't afraid of what will happen when they misbehave.

They've grown up with pansy parenting and limp-wristed discipline.

End of discussion for me!

Like I said, there are ways of discipline that don't involve any unfortunate situations to occur. Perhaps those parents should teach manners.

And when you're an adult, if you get in trouble with the law you don't get beat for it (unless you resist) - you go to jail/prison and a court rules your punishment. And even the punishments aren't and can't be physical. So, why does it have to be different when you're a fragile child. It doesn't makem sense.

In my eyes, it's lazy parenting. Quick way to get the job done, but may lead to long term problems.

And, to get back on subject, what is the shadow effect for Brer Rabbit? Like the silhouettes with the little bunny?
