Splash Mountain closing for annual refurbishment in January 2014

I am so determined to ride Splash Mountain that I moved my trip in January up a week to arrive on the 5th so that I have at least one day to enjoy it before the Refurb! Last March when I was there it was closed and I wasn't going to let it happen again!

You have to be very careful when visiting during the "off season", since they tend to refurbish things then. I know, as I always go in January. Do you best to check refurb schedules and plan accordingly. Sometimes you'll get lucky and nothing will be down.

So, what are they planning on doing during this refurb?

Fix anywhere water touches because water is not a loving mistress and fix none function animatronics, and HOPEFULLY fix the audio issue I noticed last week. You could not hear the voices of the characters just the music.

Not sure if this was mention, but I'm here now and it looks like they're replacing the landscaping with the grass they have on 7DMT and Mermaid

Going on the 18th of March, it officially opens the 22nd. having high hopes it will be open since it's my first time at disneyworld.
I'm going on the 13th and have been hoping for the same thing. This is one of our favorites and I hate the thought of it being closed while we are there.

The ride soft opened this to very few guests this evening. I wasn't overly impressed by the refurbishment but it looks like needed maintenance was done. Shows scenes seemed freshened and all of the water effects in the Laughing Place were working. Audio seemed cleaned up and levels adjusted thought the ride. The projection of Brer Rabbit being chased over the hill wasn't fixed. One of the AA gators in the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah segments was motionless. The "bobber" Hidden Mickey is back, but in a slightly different location!

Hopefully that was just for the soft opening. Hopefully tomorrow it will look better.

They did close it but it opened back up, sadly the logs didn't receive any attention as many of them still have signs of the mold in the brown part of them on the front. The ride went down and folks were evacuated, however it went back up later in the night. I did not get to ride however. Other than the new fake grass I wonder if the extended refurb is being done just because TDO realized now they can have it closed for that much amount of time just to save on costs. I'll save my judgement for when I ride it.
