So when is the Lou Mongello crac... err... pixie dust tape coming out?
Wouldn't matter. Like Marion Berry, he'd get re-elected.
What annoys me about him and the mom-panel at Disney is this...and I hope I word this well...a series of assumptions...
Assumption 1 - Disney is about family fun
Assumption 2 - Planning a Disney Trip is Complicated
Assumption 3 - Disney creates systems and practices that MAKE planning a Disney vacation complicated
Assumption 4 - Disney thinks these systems and practices "enhance" the guest experience, but realize that they have created a complex system that may turn away new prospects/customers.
Assumption 5 - Disney realizes that it's getting to be too much work for the cost for many families, and decides to fight back with online media campaigns.
Assumption 6 - Disney hires a large group of individuals (mostly women) to represent "average moms"...when they are far from "average moms" to tout the "wonders" of a Disney vacation...falling back on the same marketing tactics that late night TV marketers choose.
Assumption 7 - Realizing that many people are turning to the internet for advice on how to plan their overly complex Disney trips, Disney decides to fight back, and appoints a "mom panel" of bloggers who will answer every question you may have about Disney, all while not directly answering many questions at all. Rather, using vague Disney terms and not providing any real information at all (ever searched the mom's panel blog for an answer like "when does Remy show up?"...yeah, good luck...
Assumption 8 - Disney realized that this isn't working, but it's carrying enough supposed web traffic (probably mostly drummed up with SEO scams running on proxys out of India) that they keep the project going, with little improvement.
Assumption 9 - Disney decides to be "funny" and try and create memes, like the goat and the "Ice Cream Break" video, but it just comes off as forced marketing, and is dismissed by the net in general as crappy marketing. However, things like "Paperman" go viral, and Disney ignores this, and even clamps down on sharing this video by sicking their big dog legal on websites.
Assumption 10 - Disney keeps pumping money into people like Lou, hoping he will connect with the middle income Blue Collar NE market that was, for a long time, a regular FL vacation goer...but the market has changed, and Disney hasn't. They changed their media, but not their presentation, or their product (very much).
