You mean an effect where a live actor magically enters the screen to become part of the movie....an effect done in a much less impressive way than T2:3D did over 15 years ago at Universal?
It was actually done in 1914's Gertie the Dinosaur.

Not sure why that makes it necessarily a bad thing. It's like saying you shouldn't build a roller coaster because other roller coasters existed fifteen years ago.

I like the new ...kinder, gentler @spirit74.....seems he needs to spend more time with the lady spirit... less time with @Lee...not there is anything wrong with Lee.....I like him too. But it looks as though the time with someone other then Lee and fanbois has....shall we say.....made you a little little less ridgid;)

Passing in and out of a movie screen was aLso presented at the Dupont pavilion during the 64-65 N.Y. World's Fair.

"THE DU PONT PAVILION SHOW, "Wonderful World of Chemistry" is a musical revue in which singers and dancers onstage join in musical interplay with other performers on motion picture film.

It's startling fare, which requires perfect timing, especially when a girl on film passes a rose to a boy onstage, who in turn, hands it to another girl on film."

Looks like everything old will be new again!

Man I read your posts 74 and its like a book, I try to imagine who you are. Perhaps I'll get a mouse job and our paths will cross. Anyway, welcome back... Any news Avatar? Some are suggesting some strange inflated budget plans... Are we still looking at $400-500M?

I just watched the video of Mickey and the Magic Map on YouTube. So I guess every Disney park in the world is getting cool stuff now except for Orlando. Is that the plan? It is frustrating to see all of this cool, innovative stuff going everywhere but Disney World. We get stuck with value engineered clones. I feel like Charlie Brown on Halloween. I got a rock.

ironically.. the DL locals are poo'ing on the show for the most part. They have high expectations for a stage show returning to the theatre and they were let down. While inversely.. we've gotten other new tech like the sorcerer game.. (and another coming) and they've not gotten those things.

Yeah, how did Uni end up with the theme park rights for HP. If its Time-Warner, shouldn't we be seeing it at Six Flags?

TW licensed the rights for their properties to Six Flags. TW doesn't own the rights to HP, just the movie rights. It is similar to how different parties own rights for Marvel (Disney/Marvel receives fees for Sony to make Spider-Man movies, while Disney owns merchandise rights and theme park rights (sans for WDW)).

In short JK Rowling owns her rights to HP and licensed the use of the IP to Uni for theme parks and TW for movies.

He doesn't have a mouse job and if he's saying $400-$500M he's either got crap sources on this one or he's lying to further some agenda.

Because Time-Warner no longer owns Six Flags and they have specific deals, not a blanket deal that gives Six Flags the rights to all Time-Warner properties.

Not quite. The deal for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is between Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Inc. and Universal City Development Partners, Ltd.

It is amusing, in hindsight, how the DL fans and WDW fans despise it when one park gets something and the other doesn't. WDW hates DL for Cars Land, and wan't their own version. DL hates WDW for Sorcerer's. WDW hates DL for Glow with the Show. DL hates WDW for MM+ / KTTW. List goes on.

I dunno, random I know, but it just occurred to me after my trip to DL (being jealous of all the things 'they get') how I walked away thinking...I wouldn't be jealous again (not that I didn't love it there!)...

@WDW1974 - Here's what I want to know...

Will Disney respond to Comcast's investment of $1.5 billion in new attractions and refurbishments for USO - or will they just pretend it's business as usual and just ignore it? I like to think that I'm an optimist, but lately I've been unsure. Disney needs to respond and invest in their parks in kind. If they don't, I hate to say it, but they will be giving up marketshare and let USO gain at their own expense! Many people I know have excluded WDW from their Orlando vacation plans and are spending more time at USO. I may jump ship too if things continue as they are with an unchanging the status que. I hold up hope because I refuse to believe that my favorite company will do nothing and let Uni walk all over them! But the more I wait and see nothing ready to happen, the more I start thinking that maybe Disney just doesn't care any more and that the spirit of enthusiasm at the top levels has been replaced by a new generation of vision less executives - and I pray this isn't true!

I would like to see a big investment expanding and updating DHS. I would like to see updates in EC, including a new attraction for Imagination. I would like to see monorail (or other futuristic rail system) connections to DHS, DAK, etc.

I want the excitement that existed between 1988 and 1998 to return! What's your thoughts? Do you think it will and that the company is just taking a breather, or do you think those days are from an era of Disney's history that is long gone with no hope of resurrecting?

I don't hate it. I'm seriously jealous of what the Chinese parks get, but I know that is where the real money is, so they'll get the best stuff.

Not mad, really. But a little jealous.

Never wanted Carsland and was so happy that went to California. They were so happy with it, too. So win-win there!

I don't know, Backlot Express at DHS has always had open drink station and it is still there. I guess I didn't realize people didn't pay for drinks. Also, it's not like you can walk back in after leaving BoG because the line is so long.

Yes. Great spot to get water.

Having seen it though, it is extremely well done!

Haven't seen it, but trust you and everyone else that it's very cool. I'm not a Cars fan and never wanted it.

I think it's great for different parks to have different things, honestly. I do love Soarin, though!

Yeah, how did Uni end up with the theme park rights for HP. If its Time-Warner, shouldn't we be seeing it at Six Flags?

1)WB does not wholly own HP, So it's not like WB can just give off the rights to SF.
2)Based on her attention to detail and demand for quality, would JK Rowling really want her universe in the hands of Six Flags?
3)How UNI got HP:Reader's Digest Edition
Disney approached JK & WB circa 2004-2005
While Baxter secretly toiled away on a version of HP land, Rasulo/WDI showed Rowling a pared down concept that had a fancier version of TSMM and a magical creatures petting zoo (think Lucky meets IoA JP triceratops encounter). Rasulo and co. also wanted to keep the budget down (read value engineered). In short, JK was offended by Disney's attitude. BTW, did you know Rasulo fought against Lucasfilm properties being put in the parks back in the day?
Rowling met with Dr. Seuss' second wife, Audrey Geisel, who praised UNI's attention to detail when creating and maintaining Seuss Landing at IoA.
WB and Rowling sign with UNI.

I know there's a lot more to that story, but I wanted to be brief.

4)I brought up the potential UNI-Legendary partnership because Legendary is very interested in creating a synergy machine and NBCUni can offer that opportunity through it's assets like film studios, broadcast & cable channels, theme parks etc. When you're licensing from different partners like WB, Sony, Fox/Gracie Films, or Nickelodeon, synergy can be harder/limited. The article escapes me, but said article argued a reason why JJ jumped ship to Disney/Lucasfilm to do Ep. VII was that it would be easier to cross platform stuff. Disney is the sole owner of Star Wars, as opposed to Star Trek where he had ideas to do cross platform projects, but Paramount and CBS have had trouble agreeing on the future of Trek let alone executing his ideas.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to BGT Spirit, by chance did you get to visit Tiger Trail? If you did do you prefer the tiger exhibit at BGT or Animal Kingdom? I personally prefer BGT's tiger exhibit but was just curious of your opinion.

Can't say I like one over the other. They are both well done. It was funny when a young boy decided to sit with his back to a window and a kitty came over and attempted to bite his head off. Charming.

I really enjoyed the cheetahs, though. Around closing, they all got up and chased each other around and were basically posing on the rocks etc. LIke I said, very impressed by BGT.

Trust me, DL fans aren't jealous AT ALL about MM+. We're praying it doesn't end up in Anaheim.
