Ah...well if Comcast is against it then.....
Still have a hard time seeing it come to WDW though. Personally i would rather it not...folks can go elsewhere for that ( like Vegas! ).

:)
Yep. When MGM built an amusement park behind the MGM Grand it didn't draw families to Vegas as hoped. The plan was a huge failure. Building a single casino next to WDW or Universal isn't going to draw gamblers to O-Town either.

LOL, and I'm guessing you're a journalist? It's common for stories to get updated with reactions and quotes, more so where stories are posted on the web first.

Actually, I used to be one professionally. :) The NYT piece already had plenty of quotes pertaining to the topic from all sides, it's called pressure that changed some of the tone of the piece. That's not updating it for reactions and quotes, that's having a journalist alter their piece because someone of importance at a given entity doesn't like what was published. It is one of the our greatest problems in "journalism" nowadays.

If this was published to print, it is what it was. Since it was published online before going to press, it isn't what it was and underlying pieces were altered because of an outside force.... and just like @ford91exploder is pointing out, the original piece, one that would be more damning is altered and unless one is fishing for it, the masses get an altered piece, and the original is as if it never existed.

Building a HUGE casino next to The Orange County Convention Center would be a gold mine.
No doubt it would make money. It would draw convention visitors and locals. It would potentially impact a deluxe hotel like CR that hosts conventions and it would impact signature restaurants since they could lose convention visitors who are eating on the company tab. It will impact adult nightlife for people visiting without kids. Since WDW had little to offer in that area it would mostly hurt Universal and Citywalk.

What it won't impact is the family of 4 who are visiting WDW/Universal for a week. It also won't draw a gambler from somewhere like NY. If you are going to hop on a flight somewhere to gamble it won't be Orlando.

What you say is true however conventions especially sales oriented ones tend to go to gambling venues, and this would be a massive hit to the contemporary especially if room rates were lower. I can see the contemporary losing ALL its convention business, Well perhaps not the Lifestyler and 'Colicky Baby Conference' but Disney would have to respond with it's own gaming venue.

Granted, but the latter two examples were deliberately done "on the cheap" within either a theme park themed as an amusement park or as part of a theme park themed as a roadside carnival. Poor design choice, certainly, and both should ultimately be removed. Neither is appropriate for a Disney theme park.

I think Barnstormer often gets a pass (and maybe it shouldn't) because its small stature and placement leave it largely out of direct view unless you are there and looking right at it, and because it is billed as a "kiddie coaster". It's awful to think that either a (purely) "kiddie" ride is considered acceptable in the Magic Kingdom or that such a ride doesn't deserve the same level of theme and attention to detail as anything else, but it's probably true enough.

But deciding to do something on "the cheap" is no excuse. Exposed steel is exposed steel. Just because you choose the cheaper option does not give you a pass. lol Does it become more visually appealing because it was done on the cheap? I mean that is what you are saying.

I think it's being said that bare steel themed to bare steel (C&H) is different than bare steel in say... Gotham City.

It's one thing to be skeptical - but you've gone to the extreme of conspiracy nut job.

People keep forgetting the risk/reward analysis in all these 'Disney is a lying devil' arguments.

How many times has Disney lied in announcements? I think all of us have lost count its why most of us never trusts what Disney has to say about anything, It's not conspiracy thinking to posit that Disney will chase the most lucrative guest oriented business around especially since it has low CAPEX requirements and approval requires skill in the politcal arena. Both characteristics which Disney exhibits in spades.

Disney for years has lobbied against gaming, but since it seems inevitable that gaming in one form or another will be approved in FL, Disney wants in on the ground floor as they are not going to give up convention revenues without something in exchange.

Doing something cheaply is an explanation, not an excuse. Nowhere did I even suggest Shy School or Primeval Whirl should be given a pass. On the contrary, I specifically stated that they were a poor design choice and have no place in a Disney park. Again, and solely as matter of explanation not excuse, they do indeed look like an amusement park or carnival ride respectively.

Where do I say they are more visually appealing for being done cheaply? That doesn't make any sense.

Didn't you say you give smaller coasters a pass? Sorry, if I got your post confused with someone else.

Local boards are even easier and cheaper, Disney will hire a few PI's and magically all local opposition will disappear because of the pecadilloes of the local board/council members and mayors. The more ethical will resign, The more dangerous variety will accede to whatever demands are made of them, Few will choose willingly expose their misdeeds to the public in hopes of exoneration.

Plus local pols and board members will usually 'Stay Bought' because the majority of them have higher ambitions and as long as these are in line with the purchasing entity they will be used by same.

Yes I am a Cynic but it's the way business is done in the US these days and WHY people should scrutinize local pols much more closely than they do because the culture of corruption starts at the local level.

That is why I am pushing for a "NO RE-ELECTION FOR ANYBODY" campaign. You get a 6 year term and that is it!! no re-election. no career politicians - NO FREAKIN' Camelot style legacies. you get elected for 6 years then you do what the founding fathers intended, and get your butt back out and work!! pension and health benefits for 6 years - ONLY. Maybe then our politicians will actually DO SOMETHING instead of working their re-election campaign from day TWO !!

And if they shut down the gopvernment again...it is time to elect some 'scabs'. they won't do their JOBS - somebody else WILL!!!

Random thoughts:

I successfully linked an annual pass to a magic band & made fP+ ressies an hour out. Worked perfectly except mansion was 101.

Talking Mickey has a line. Like a half hour fast pass line or longer. 90 mins for standby at 4pm. Wow.

The price of a pretzel & a coke seems to keep going up. 8 bucks is a little much.

Thoughts on gambling: Disney doesn't want it in Florida so they don't have those resorts competing with the parks but they have no problem cashing in on it elsewhere. I'm not shocked. Then again Han Solo did win the millenium falcon in a card game....

Christmas stuff is out in the stores at some resorts & it's not even Halloween yet.
