Meh. I'm not a fan of the land clearing that Six Flags and Cedar Fair do with their coasters.

Besides the fact that those Batman coasters are poorly themed to begin with.
I have seen a Six Flags park put a coaster in a portion of a former parking lot and leave the asphalt complete with the parking space lines underneath the coaster. That is why it irks me so much when people say that Universal is just a Six Flags on steroids.

Back to Magic Bands--current goal is to roll them out to Cast Members by year's end, as their annual Christmas present. (I'd rather have another copy of Toy Story 3 but YMMV).

I am not a fan of these coaster arguments, but I will say that there is a way out there to better hide the track yet still so some for that feel of thrill. Im not saying a mountain! Just something else!

I agree, the structure of a coaster need not be overly themed to be hidden or disguised, either of which could generally be done at reasonable cost and without toning down the thrills. Too many (obvious) choices other than bare pylons to hold up the track.

theres nothing wrong with parks like cedar point..its just a different feel...CP is incredibly popular and certainly has its own audience and deserves a respect as a destination

I'll bet that non-Disney amusement parks absolutely curse Walt Disney for his themed ride ideas. Now they have to spend ginormous amounts of money just to even try to stay with the Disney spoiled, expectations of their previously unconcerned customers. BTW, I know a place in a park in Disney that has paved grounds under a grouping of semi-themed rides. White lines and everything, but it was intentional. It's too bad that the back story for that has not been conveyed to enough people for them to understand it's meaning. I guess it was just not a good idea to do it, with or without a back story.

Yes, I would say that I think covering up the pylons with some decor is of more important than having exposed tracks when it comes to "theming".

Really? Not me. Lots to criticize about Disney, but their mountain range is wonderful. Too bad what is inside is not always maintained.

I love the rides just fine, don't get me wrong. But hiding every coaster in a mountain isn't necessary, especially when it looks as good as The Hulk does.

I agree. I don't think Islands of Adventure needs it's two major coaster attractions to be disguised in some mountain range. I like how they are and I feel like that's what seperates it from Magic Kingdom.

I think The Incredible Hulk works in large part because of the contemporary, and at times very industrial, environment of Marvel Superhero Island. Dueling Dragons / Dragon Challenge has always been sort of hidden because all of that steel does not make a lot of sense in a place that is far more hand crafted in its tone. I also think Gadget's Go Coaster works rather well with its environment. Flight of the Hippogriff is a bit more meh, but I think the continued grow of landscaping can help obscure the track from everywhere else as well as add excitement to the attraction.

"The Potter Swatter" (as some like to call it)

I have read quite a few posts about what Disney is going to do to combat Harry Potter. Disney has known the power of Harry Potter for years...YEARS! It surprises me that they did pass on it but Disney felt it had an IP that would become bigger and stronger than anything Harry Potter could ever conjour.

Does anyone remember the announcements years ago with the plans of hiring Clive Barker to write and develop a story for books, theme park attractions, merchandise and more? I am talking about...ABARAT. The books were written. The story is there. What happened? I remember hearing the possibilities of what Abarat was going to do for the Walt Disney Company.

Unfortunately, those plans didn't even make it into a coffee table book.

I'll take the beautiful steel of the Hulk over yet another mountain any day.

A well done steel or wooden coaster has an aesthetic all its own, and THAT's the theme for that coaster, Now well done landscaping like Bush Gardens tends enhance the experience as well, not a fan of asphalt/gravel/mulch as a coaster base.

Universal Creative, even though creating beautiful themeing, also don't try and pretend that they aren't creating a theme park environment. They don't play by Disney's rules. They are writing their own playbook. One that includes big coasters AND extensive themeing. The only people that seem to get their panties in a bunch over it are Pixie Dusters. Universal WANTS you to see their big coaster from I-4.
That seems like a lazy explanation and there's no reason I have to think it looks good.

HA! Do you realize how much room is in the imagination pavilion? Between that and wonders of life, they can house all the special events guests that they will ever need. It will be amazing!
I remember Walt saying,
"Here in the Imagination Pavilion, we have something special that we never enjoyed at the Wonders of Life Pavilion . . . the blessing of size. There’s enough floor space here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine.”
