LOL... the description of the ride sounds almost exactly like the description of Spider-Man at Uni.

Also: Late 2016? Sounds like it'll open looooooong before any of the AvatarStarWarsMonsterIncCarsLandEtc stuff.

Yes ... " But the park’s small size annoyed many local guests, who wanted more rides to go with the extravagant landscaping." Apparently being "annoyed" works in Hong Kong.

It will. They are ready to go on this (again, as some Spirit mentioned a while back when Mystic Point construction ended). I miss that park!

Probably too early to draw any conclusions, but the concept art accompanying the article shows an attraction building with artwork on the side of Iron Man hovering in front of a vehicle that reminds me of something else...

You beat me to it ... Henry.

Of course, I did tell everyone that Marvel was coming to HKDL many months ago. And, if it is anything like what we've seen so far, it should be high quality.

Interesting timing ... and giving the NYT seemingly an exclusive. Guess Brooks 'friendship' with Bruce Vaughn pays dividends.

At least this should give you kids something to chat about. Things are dreadfully boring right now (like an episode of S.H.E.I.L.D.!)
It won't stop the fanbois from acting like this counts as Disney doing something when we say they aren't.

Oh wow, I didn't see that there was "art." Good eye. Stark Tours 3.0

Here's to hoping it would be more along the lines of StormRider than Star Tours.
Maybe have the craft crash into Iron Man at one point so his head and torso are sticking down into the cabin for a few seconds as he struggles to get out.

I dunno ...I had heard a Marvel attractions taking the expansion pad left for Star Tours, so it is very possible that this is a sim type ride.

Well, my question was more about the budget being cut.

Regarding the speeder bike, my impression is that it will not be using the Peoplemover/Ricket Rod tracks, but will be build along the same space -- that the tracks would have to be heavily rebuild or replaced entirely. If they are doing that and it is extensive, it's possible that they would build tracks that are fully enclosed for show purposes (traveling outside in TL IMHO would tend to break up the theme of travelling within the forests of Endor). But, the flip side is that having open tracks would be cheaper and so it makes it quite believable that TDA would go that route.

Your right that most of the tracks would be torn down however the new tracks would follow a similar layout to keep that nice kinect feel that TL used to have. I don't believe the ride will have anything to do with Endor though.

Do you know if this is the same Iron Man attraction that was slated for Disneyland prior to the Star Wars acquisition?

In any case it looks and sounds extremely underwhelming and doesn't exactly scream that I need to visit HK any time soon. Disneyland got Cars Land and HK Disneyland gets....an "iron man experience".

But they also got Grizzlt, and Mystic Manor! Which is simply quality. And DLP gets Rat, which promises to be even better than Mystic, with its own little miniland.

It's only WDW that will not see a quality addition for well over a decade. (Disregarding ST2, which is amazing, but not really an addition)

What is "ST2"?

No, it was not. The HK SAR has demanded unique attractions. HKDL is already an amazing place to visit and one that is getting better all the time. This will be the third UNIQUE E-Ticket in five years. Complain about WDW, there is nothing wrong with the way HKDL is being run and developed.

The NY Times article cited an estimated 100 million dollar budget for the Iron Man attraction.
Assuming that it is indeed a Star Tours clone of some sort, where is that money going to go?
Special effects budget for making the 3D CGI film of Fin Fang Foom destroying Hong Kong?
How much does Robert Downey Junior get?

Hate the concept art. Decorated, not themed.
It feels empty, emotionally uninvolving, doesn't it? I'd say there is theme without placemaking.

Disney is getting in the habit of theming individual rides, plus their immediate surrounding. Instead of the old way of creating a place, a themed land.
That is a mistake. Individual rides need to be subordinate to the overall 'story' (that maligned term!) of the land. Instead of the story of the ride taking preference and the area around it being themed to that. That is the world upside down.

This is why NFL falls so flat too. That is a collection of several areas themed as BatB, Mermaid, Snow. But, in the immortal words Gertrude Stein spoke about Oakland: 'there is no 'there' there'.
Like LA it estranges the visitor. Unlike San Francisco, which is a proper 'place'. Or old European towns, or classic FL, which was a very strong place, a mediaeval town square.
