There was a mention on the one blog (the one by Niles) that there is going to also be a smaller addition to DHS, but that it hasn't been decided exactly what. I'm guessing that some sort of Pixar attraction will be added, even though a full Cars Land would not.

DVC on the second floors of the show buildings perhaps...

The BoD would rather have a resort running on 6 cylinders with no smoke and making an obscene amount of cash then 2 cylinders and plumes of smoke though.

You have to spend money to make money, they just aren't spending it on the correct things to use as 'draw' to get folks to visit.

Currently you cannot even SEE the resort from the smoke arising from the engine

I disagree. If the BOD wanted to dump a bunch of cash into WDW to get it running on 6 cylinders it would have happened already. They did "green light" a stock repurchase though.

Spirited Thursday Musings:

So, Disney's release schedule gets rearranged. Part of it starts and ends with John Lasseter's habit of pulling directors off of projects late in the game. For the home audience it's the fourth time in as many films.

Add in Disney playing hardball with Bruckheimer over Pirates, issues with Star Wars and a fear of more tentpole failures and you have the current changes.

On the other hand, Planes is about to pass Elysium at the box office, so it isn't all doom and gloom.

The good thing about preferring Halloween Horror Nights over trick or treating at the MK is that most lifestylers will stay far away from UNI.

I somehow forgot to mention and haven't seen anyone else, but FOX has proposed a billion dollar theme park in South Florida next to Zoo Miami (or Metro Zoo as most of us locals know it as). It probably will never happen because for some reason theme parks never happen here despite the climate and tourism based economy. But properties mentioned for attractions run the gamut from Rio to Rango to Alien. A water park and concert venue are also proposed.

This gives the exec's a nice tax advantaged way to cash in on their stockholding, plus they can the give all the stock they bought back to themselves because in the announcement I don't see any plan to retire the shares. Just the normal plundering of corporate assets to benefit insiders

They won't retire the shares. They will hold them for later use like issuing options and/or acquisitions.

Just curious, but what's the tax advantages for executives cashing in their shares? Because they are doing a buyback instead of a dividend which would be taxable to them as shareholders?

Iger exercises incredible control over Disney's BOD. Even after the situation with Eisner, Disney shareholders and Wall Street only weakly protested Iger assuming both CEO and COB titles in October 2011. With well over a $3B stock buyback this year (so far) and up to another $8B announced for the future, the stock price will remain propped up. It's all about the stock price and Iger knows that.

Like Eisner before him, Iger has nearly absolute control and, without Eisner's personal flaws of insulting those in positions of influence, there will be no "Save Disney" campaign. Disney's Old Guard is dead and buried.

The Walt Disney Company is now the epitome of corporate America.

Nothing will change unless Iger wants it to change.

This.

You only bring change at Disney by hurting them financially or embarrassing them publicly. That's it.

And on the subject of IT incompetence and MyMagicMinus we have this from Mouseowners, Ghost Reservations where the reservation exists but points were not pulled - So it's not usable and parent poster is in desperate need of Valium... Because of the stress My(Bad)DisneyExperience is putting on her.

Oh and IT will be sending out 10 pages of transaction logs so that the hapless DVC member can try to figure out what happened because apparently they cannot.

Enjoy!

I am not sure - One of our accounting oriented members is better qualified to explain but since its a asset exchange initiated by the company rather than the shareholder special rules apply.

A note from a local South Floridian -

Miami is going through a period of dramatic growth all of a sudden. There are multi-billion dollar developments every where in Miami at various states of development from proposals to actual construction. There are more projects measured in billions of dollars in Miami now than any city in the United States. Most of the projects are centered around downtown, the Brickell area, the Omni area, Miami International Airport, and so on. These projects are BIG. The art renderings I've seen are amazing. Many developers have purchases conjoining properties (like Walt Disney did but on a smaller scale) and announced master plans for megadevelopments on that land. There are so many that I can't even make a complete list (I've tried). So, the Fox theme park is not surprising, but this is the first time I've heard about it. Just keep in mind it is part of a new Miami. If it doesn't get built, there are plenty of other huge projects in the Miami area that will. Miami will look like look something from out of science fiction, very futuristic looking.

Actually, they've built one of the biggest peoplemover systems in the World. Much of the new development are on parcels within walking distance to peoplemover (branded "MetroMover") stations. Some of these developments will enclose some of the MetroMover's tracks and offer interior stations within.

The city is considering extending the system. The Port of Miami said they will build an extension to the Port. There's talk of building either a monorail, subway, light rail, street car, or extending MetroMover to South Beach. I've been promoting the MetroMover extension idea.
