I'm glad no one taped me with Lotso at the MNSSHP last year. I asked him if he smelled like strawberries (like everyone does), and he shoved my face into his sweaty pink armpit. It was maaaaaaaaaaaaagical! (And hilarious - and he smelled like sweaty fabric, not strawberries)

Bahahahaha!

Hi kids.

That's me.

Some give Jeff a heads up that a cease and desist will be coming.

Yikes!

Also, you're a pretty sharp dresser, Mr. Dave.

Seeing as the ball is now rolling, I will not comment on this further.

Uhh.. glass houses dude. *looks at top of page and thread title*

Not my thread, so don't see how it's my glass house.

For the record, I don't believe the Spirit takes hand-outs directly from corporate (tho I was under the impression you know him better than me). And he still discloses when he receives something free from a friend.

If you look at WalMart.com there is more Harry Potter merchandise than Avatar merchandise and it's not even remotely close.

HA! I'll take it one step further:
Avatar merch NEVER sold. Not even when it was the hottest movie around. I remember seeing piles of the crap on clearance at nearly every toy store when the movie was still in theaters. Seriously, no one cared.

As a matter of a fact, I'd say Avatar is a big reason why retailers won't take a gamble on the merchandise for many of these big tentpole movies anymore. An action movie has to be a proven winner in order for toys to get made now.

I'll agree with the merch not selling, but from a second hand POV. I like to browse flea markets on a nice warm Saturday morning ( one day, I'll find that first edition hardcover copy of Dune) and judging by what people are selling.... Not a whole lot had bought the avatar merchandise. Why? Because you don't see it. Anywhere. Ninja turtles, Star Wars, he man, she ra, my little pony, strawberry shortcake, Dora the explorer, care ears, pac man... The list goes on. But I've never come across anything avatar. If I did, I would probably buy it just for the rare experience of finding it.

Tardy to the party here, but I think I would have had words with the guy.

Or, if I'd had a kid in tow, I think he'd have a broken camera and a broken nose.
Ive noticed over the past year that certain CMs at character meet n greets will get in peoples faces about taking pictures from the side(implication being that pics are being taken of children for less than nice reasons). Any clue if thats an official policy or just some CMs who are looking out on their own?

I honestly think its a good idea, because there are creeps out there.

Journalists are paid a salary to report the news as directed by their media outlet or if they are freelance and are paid by the story yet very few pay for their own travel which includes airfare, rental cars, hotel, meals, etc. Media events contain a good deal of SWAG as a token for the press to thank them for their particpation in whatever mesage the corp. entity is trying to convey but very few journalists ever state that they received special goodie bags after the press event.

While I have never considered bloggers journalists, merely enthusiests who wish to report their views on the internet, nothing more. I do not believe there are many potential WDW bound parties that would consider any of the Disney fan sites as journalist sources, simply a source of opinions and maybe a bit of insider insight. I automatically assume if you are operating a Disney fan site/blog, you are biased toward Disney or you would not waste your time and resources on the subject.

Lets face it, the "real" cost of a meal is usually no more than 13% for food, 7% for labor, so around 20% of the ticket and I would be willing to bet Disney has MUCH higher margins. The $50.00 gift cards are Disney cards right? If so, the margins on anything in the park are at least 125% and I would be 150% or higher making the real cost of the gift cards to Disney around $15 or $20, exempting a possibility that the guest would have purchased whatever they use the card for anyway. So in total, if they had a $100 ticketed dinner the total cost to Disney would be less than $40.00, hardly a windfall that would sway most people, it would not sway me in the least.
A $50 gift card that is tax-deductible as marketing expense for Disney. These cards then buy pins for $50, on which Disney has a profit margin of 80%, $40. The remaining ten dollars in real costs are tax deductible as well. So that's $10 real expenses, and $60 in tax reduction - in effect making this $50 gift card a gift from the taxpayer to TWDC. :greedy:

Of course it does not 'have to' ....but Disney loves blurring the lines. Having a media event where 80% of the crowd are bloggers that might as well be called BRAND advocates would be an example of that.

And wherever I get my information, I want it as untainted by bias as possible.

The only times most of these folks complain about Disney is when they don't get something that another blogger/site got. The fact WDW has some major issues that should be a concern of all these uber fans, yet never seems to get brought up on their sites or when they get their minutes of access, tells you that 98% of these folks are just in it for themselves and do not give a damn about Disney or their flocks.

THIS A MILLION TIMES OVER!

What is funny is that if all these people would not worry about getting the free stuff and actually talk about all the things wrong with WDW/TDO as much as they talk about the things they love we might be on our way to a much better product for everyone. Which is exactly what you would think those who claim to love WDW would want for themselves and everyone else.

I disagree with others opinions and discuss them. I don't call you names or laugh at your physical appearance or in any way try to connect them to whatever or however your life is going. That is my concern. The holier then thou attitude because someone does something that you either don't do or don't agree with.
I think those bloggers still looked a better behaved, better dressed crowd than any random sample of fifty WDW guests. Not that that is any accomplishment in itself, mind.

And for another 800-pound gorilla in the room: I bet they also look a lot better, fitter and normal than half the basement dwelling armchair-CEO's laughing at them on this forum.
