Hi everyone just letting everyone that does not know learn what is happening. Yesterday NASA lost contact with the Spirit Rover, they received a signal after this which said Spirit was still there. They haven't received any data or a signal since. Stay Tuned for future news on Spirit.

I heard about this earlier today...I think it's up to 24 hours without contact now...

I think Marvin the Martian hijacked it.

And another $ 5 billion (or whatever it was)down the drain.

The signal, a signle tone, was programmed into the rover to communicate a serious problem.

That’s just the carrier signal... It’s just a standard send/receive signal 'tone' to confirm something was sent/received. That’s all they have received. They can send/receive to/from it... its just the rover is not transmitting the data like it should... its all gibberish. Eh... give em a couple more days... hopefully it’s just a software glitch they can patch, or maybe they can switch to the low gain antenna and try that.

Ok.. I'm done with my geeky 'used to be a broadcast engineer jibber jabber' now.

Does anyone else find simply unbelieveable AND remarkable that we actually have a rover on Mars and have gotten pictures as good as they are? Are we sure they aren't in Eastern Arizona somewhere in the desert pulling a fast one?

Hopefully they will find a software glitch and patch it up in no time... Hopefully... :( At least, if we got anything out of this, we got a dozen or so great high-quality images suitable for use as computer Desktops! :lookaroun

You are cracking me up!

Soon there will be a musicalized transmission in the tune of "los marcianos llegaron ya, y llegaron bailando cha cha cha!" :D

So... in conclusion.... THERE IS LIFE IN MARS!! (and they stole the toy!)

I think it would be so funny to see Opportunity send back pictures of a Martian humping the Spirit

This just in.

"The next opportunity for communication comes at 11 p.m. ET, when the Mars Global Surveyor satellite is expected to pass over the rover."
:D

Hopefully they will receive a stronger signal. Hey and since it's just a $400 million dollar computer on wheels maybe they can just reboot it.

Spirit is alive:sohappy:

Early this morning at around 4:30 a.m. Spirit started sending data back to NASA. They are currently looking over the data to see what the malfunction is.:D
