Spirit of Aloha dinner show

Hello
I am going to WDW in September with the dining plan. I booked us a spot at the Polynesian Luau show. I can remember going there when I was younger and I vaguely remember that there were characters. Well I booked it and I was on All Ears today getting the menu for my picky husband. Well I was reading the reviews and they weren't that great and it doesn't sound like there are any characters involved. Can anyone give me their review and some info and let me know if this is worth going to????

Thanks in advance!

Call Disney back, 407-WDW-DINE (939-3463) if you're not sure what you booked. One of the required speils for Spirit of Aloha is to tell you it's not a character show.

It also takes 2 of your table service options, and did you book it with a credit card guarantee or did you pay for it? If you didn't have the required mention of the "no characters" then you might of paid for it in full when a dining package should only have a guarantee.

That said, it's a good show, fire twirlers and I personally like the dance styles from an artistic standpoint. It's not for everyone though, and if you're jsut looking for a general "good ol' time" you might be mroe interested in the Hoop dee Doo.

I have done it quite a few times already. It is very different from what it used to be "back in the day". It is now a story line with a main character Aunt Winnie and a story about a girl who grew up in Hawaii, went off to the mainland to go to school and came back different. She relearns where home is after her family hosts a luau. There is some audience participation, but no characters. It has traditional Polynesian dances from many islands. The fire twiller is worth sitting through the story line which can be corny at best :) The food is so-so. Don't like the chicken or ribs but the side-dishes, salad and rice are good. I think if you have never seen it, like all things in Disney, is worth it at least once. Have fun if you go! :)

I would say yes do it!!! We have been twice since the redo a few years ago and still enjoy it. The origional show was better I think but this one is good too. They did used to have Minnies Polynesian review which had characters at 5pm but is no longer offered. When the show starts its not the usual luau but give it time, the food then comes and the music plays while you eat(Its loud and makes it hard to talk without yelling if your up close). The food is good IMO. They even have kids meals for the little ones. After you eat the show turns into the traditional Luau other than the story line. If you do the 1st show of the night when its over take your time, walk along the beach, Stroll through the lobby, then at around 8:30 go down to the beach grab a pool towell and watch the electric water pagent. Then take the boat to Mk for the night or stay longer and see Wishes. The Poly offeres one of the best views.

ITA with this assessment of the "new" (at least it was last year to me) luau. The "Aunt Winnie" storyline made me want to throw my chicken bones at the stage, not only because of the sheer cheesiness (and I love me some Velveeta at times), but also because that actress' voice was so. unbelievably. annoying. IIRC, they called up the couples at one point before the luau, during the miserable storyline, in order for them to have a romantic dance (you know... in the presence of hundreds of your new friends). In addition, the meal felt incredibly rushed and wasn't nearly as good as I remembered.

That being said, the actual luau part (i.e. the dancing) was a whole lot of fun and memorable. However, had I been forced to actually pay for the meal or use two table service coupons, I would have been mighty ticked off (under the old Silver Plan, it was only one wish). Not worth the price they're charging for it now, IMHO.

The character luau you remember was Mickey's Luau (can't remember the real name). It used to have all of the characters and was aimed squarely at the kiddies and was the early show, while there was a more "adult" luau at night. They've kind of mushed the two concepts together, and I find that as a result, the entire concept is sorely lacking. It's really a shame because I used to love the luau... *sigh*

Thank you all for your opinions and advice. I think I am going to cancel it as it doesn't sound worth two table services. Plus I am going with a very picky husband who may not even like the food and thinks that he will be seeing characters. Most of the reviews were mediocre at best and it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I reserved it, I didn't pay it in full thank goodness.

Thanks again!

Pineapple Bread: The main reason to go there. ;)

Seriously, the show was pretty good. Maybe I'm a little biased because I've never been to Hoop-de-Doo, but you can't go wrong with a pyro... uh... fire dancer. :lookaroun
