I realize this is subjective, but can anyone really name a more technologically perfect dark ride that's opened up since Spiderman 10 years ago?

Why is it nothing has surpassed it? Yes there have been good ones, but not that absolute home-run. Will the dark ride inside Wizarding World of Harry Potter top it? Or maybe Disney eventually?

10 years is a long time to still be considered the most technologically superior dark ride in the world.

How about Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Scull or CTX? And I believe Indy actually opened before.

Indiana Jones > Spiderman.

Or the world where I live in where you can be happy just because one doesn't HAVE to be better, you can enjoy both...
:lookaroun

Honestly I'd say Journey at TDS tops em' all I'm sure.

As much as I love Indy, there's something about it (the one at Disneyland at least) that feels like they ran out of money during the creation of the ride and we were left with some awkward static figures and paintings. I don't know the story behind the making of the ride so I'm not sure.. but it's an amazing ride that you can tell didn't realize it's full potential.

Now, I would have to say Journey to the Center of the Earth at TDS is the hands down best ride I've ever been on in my life. So sadly, that beats Spidey. But it's the only one to do so.

Ride quality is certainly subjective, but Spider-Man is indeed still the most technologically advanced ride I know of. All of the other attractions named so far use older, technologically inferior ride systems (even if the ride itself is newer.) If you're looking for something to dethrone it, Potter is probably the safest bet at this point. To be honest, I'm not aware of any other ride system currently under development that could help Disney catch up.

First...my thoughts on Indy. Indy does not even touch Spidey. Spiderman is on another level and took FAR more creative vision to make it work. If you enjoy Indy more, that's great as it is a great ride. However, Spidey is technologically superior as well as a more thrilling ride. I don't think this is even a contest.

Now that we have that out of the way...I've been on Journey to the Center of the Earth as well, and by my opinion as well as everyone in my group it does NOT top Spidey. Journey is only better with respect to detail and theming. In that sense, it is the best attraction I have ever seen. However, as a ride Spidey is the hands-down winner in my book. I walked off Spidey the first time I rode it and thought...Oh...My...God. There was no question in my mind that I had just rode the greatest themed attraction ever built. Journey, on the other hand, starts out with a very nice dark ride sequence that is textbook Disney, but ends with a about a 10 second, I am not kidding, 10 second thrill sequence. After the drop the ride slows immediately and you are left thinking...that's it? The others in my group all thought the same. Everyone was left underwhelmed. I had to talk my friends into riding it again! I am really sorry to say that since it is so uttery amazing from a theming perspective, but the ride ends way too soon and that is the feeling you end the ride with...not a good thing in my opinion.

Spiderman is a punch in the face from scene to scene, with an ending that "raises" you above the city and then points you around in so many different directions your brain is tricked into believing everything you see...it works perfectly.

Everyone loves to treat Journey like it is the end-all be-all ride. It is most definitely NOT. It leaves you wanting far more than what is delivered. Had the ending been extended to say a full minute of thrills, I might have a different opinion of the ride.

Best dark ride in the world = Spidey. It is perfection. It has never been topped, and I am starting to wonder if it ever will.

Nothing beats Spiderman.

It will be interesting to see if they can transistion TLM from above water scenes to an underwater scene in a cool effect. With omnimovers and no 3-D I doubt it would even be compared to Spidey.

Spiderman is going to reign supreme until Harry Potter... then it might have some competition.

I liked Spider-Man, but I can't say it was as "amazing" as some people say it is. One of the times we went on it, the audio wasn't working, which didn't help.

I thought the Mummy was far more incredible.

LOL that sucks! But Spiderman is just all around great. The que emerges you into the story and you feel like you are in New York about to take on the villains. Amazing. I agree though, Mummy que and ride are AMAZING. But Mummy is probably the second best coaster in Orlando to Everest (haven't been on Manta)...

Both blew me away, i think if i had to pick which one i preferred it would be (barely) Spiderman...

...but maybe that's because i'm a bit of comic geek :lookaroun.

I think I had just heard too much about Spider-Man being the end all be all of theme park attractions. I thought it was cool, but just didn't get what all the hype was about. As for the que, now that I think of it, I probably never saw the full que, as we used Universal Express.

Mummy on the other hand - Wow.

Spider-man is the current champ in the world of themed attractions. A superb queue, incredible technology, a tight story, and a beloved character. Everything in the ride comes together, and creates something that has yet to be topped.

While the Mummy is great, it's incoherent story holds it back some.

It is all a mater of opinion. Personally I hate the use of screens in attractions so IMHO PotC, JC and HM are better attractions than Spiderman.

I couldn't agree more.

The technology on Spiderman might be incredible, but as far as being the best ride in Orlando? No way.

I guess I'm just not all that computer savvy. Is it a fun ride? Sure. I can think of a dozen rides in Orlando I prefer over it though.
