Spider-Man to Join Marvel Films

Baby steps but steps nonetheless. I will remind you that I said this could happen and was heavily criticized for it. I return as my predictions happen and as time permits. Just waiting for the SW details. More even than Pandora. Goodnight. And good luck.

HA!

Your prediction was that Sony would NOT reboot the Spider-man franchise - which they did - and that Sony would voluntarily give Marvel back the rights to Spider-man - which they did not. You also predicted that Universal would give Disney back the theme park rights to Marvel in order to avoid promoting a Disney-owned property. Obviously never happened.

You have been wrong about absolutely everything you have ever said about Marvel for years and now you are patting yourself on the back about it. Hysterical.

Although they are making an Ant-Man movie which does sort of fly in the face of this logic.
The Ant-Man movie will focus on Scott Lang more than Pym. Pym (Michael Douglas) will join things as a seasoned veteran passing on his knowledge to the "new" Ant-Man (Rudd). Scott Lang has more of a sarcastic/snarky persona that I think will play better in the MCU than the moody/brooding Pym.

Also, I don't think they ever would have actually made an Ant-Man movie if they hadn't experienced such success with Phase I first. Iron Man was much less of a risk for the face of the franchise from the beginning, and I think that's why Stark will be the focus of Age of Ultron and Civil War. It's not that they WANTED Iron Man to be the creator of Ultron, it's just that the story plays best if Ultron's "daddy" is someone we all know and love.

Makes sense, thanks for sharing that. :geek:

Hmm, I wouldn't say Iron Man was less of a risk. Back in 2008, RDJ was not the million dollar man everyone loved and Iron-Man was not a well-known character to the general audience. Not like Hulk or Spider-Man, etc. Iron-Man was a pretty decent risk but it paid off.

Also Ant-Man was supposed to be a Phase I film. The reason it got pushed back was due to creative disagreements and thematic fluidity concerns. Joss Whedon, in an initial draft of Avengers 1, had Wasp on the team (either in place of Black Widow or alongside her, I can't remember)

Ant-Man has been in the Marvel plan since the beginning. They were always going to make the film, it was just a matter of when they agreed on a good story.

So are the Events in Ant-Man after or before the events in Avengers 2? I know A2 comes out before AM....so just wondering, since the MCU goes back and forth in the timeline so much it is hard to figure out when stuff happens and in what order.

There's a rumor that the main heist in the film will take place while the helicarrier battle in Cap 2 is going on. Which makes sense because of shield is falling then nobody would be paying attention to a company heist.

Also there are supposed to be flashbacks to the 50s when hank pym was ant man. With his wife Janet (who was the wasp) those scenes are supposed to connect to agent carter and the start of shield.

Then I believe the film will end after the events of age of ultron (maybe in a post-credit scene) catching up to the start of Civil War. I'm just speculating on that last part though.

It seems to me that Disney did not pay Sony anything to be able to use Spiderman and that Marvel will coproduce the film with Sony but with Sony paying the entire cost. Now that may not be giving the rights back but it is a great Deal for Disney. As for theme park rights for Marvel characters Universal will keep them as long as they want but Disney will never pay billions for them back. Eventually when Universal has other IP they want to use at all their parks they will give them back but that will not happen in the next 10 to 15 years.

FWIW, 21 and 22 Jump Street with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were entertaining movies.

Absolutely. I didn't say the first thing about them being bad movies. Just keep those characters in their own franchise. It is absolutely stupid to try to combine the two. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other and both have a very different kind of humor.

They are both win-win deals.

I'm not a betting man, but I will bet against Universal giving back a valuable IP like Marvel. They picked up the Marvel rights for a song at a time when Marvel was in dire need of cash. It will always be a bargain for Universal. There is no reason for them to ever part with such a sweet deal. Ever.

As for Sony, they have basically admitted they have no idea what to do with the Spider-man franchise. They have badly bungled it. Sony's basically getting Marvel to relaunch it for them. That's a huge win for Sony which needs Spider-man as a tent-pole franchise.

But the main point, and I hope we don't ever lose sight of this, is that @jt04 was 100% wrong.
