Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

The reason they went to so much time and money to have the building on legs was to be able to walk under and up into it. Rerouting the queue so you don’t do this would make the 1979 design intent pointless. They could have stuck with the original grounded version with the entrance at the rear.
Oh, gross indeed. The walk-under may be may favorite "thing" in all of WDW. I didn't know that was the intention. I assumed they'd turn the current post-show space into a new elaborate pre-show. No new structures impeding/intruding the walk-under.

EDIT: I may have misread your post Martin, sorry. So you're saying there won't be new structures - but by rerouting the entrance to the back, you'd lose the effect of entering the ride from beneath it (facing the park entrance). Got it.

We could quite possibly be looking at changes in load and unload positions, queue location, a preshow and more.

Quite how this ties in with the whole point of a building on legs so guests can “walk under, up and into it” I don’t know.
Changes to load/unload to help improve ADA accessibility?

Is it possible they want to re-route so that the queue would then be indoors and air conditioned so people dont have to stand in line under the hot sun outdoors anymore?

Welcome to 2019 brah, can't say crap anymore! ;)

Mayonnaise is too spicy for this board...If you took our edgy posts anywhere else, you'd be looked at as the mildest person ever.

It is somewhat refreshing to have a relatively drama free zone though, even though Ive been pulled back from things that wouldn't even get a second look on other sites.

Hopefully, I’m wrong and we will have a more elaborate version of what we have today.
Perhaps they will design it so you still walk in from underneath, but maybe it will be a long walk into the post-show building, similar to how the People mover splits the SM lift hills. In fact, how cool would it be to include a moving walkway into the load area? I already know the answer. It would be pointless and create a glut inside the load/unload area. But, hey, it sounds cool!

Might not be there anymore.

@marni1971 thanks for the info about the Egyptian, I was unaware he lacked any actual animatronic elements. Window Girl was a full AA figure correct? From available footage she definitely looks to be. Do any diagrams/schematics exist of her or the section she sits in ?

Sadly I was not allowed to peruse the show set plans for original SSE. But we know she had arm and mouth motion.

If we analyze the footage we have of Window Girl, it’s possible her arms were maneuvered by the levers she’s controlling as well as having head and mouth movements as she originally had audio.

I just want a new space scene in the new version. Please.

Well most of it is still there besides the astronauts/satellites and window girls skin/clothing. They would just have to remove any modern obstructions from the scene and repaint everything, repair damaged portions and restore the spaceship lighting and window girl. I believe the original scene could be greatly plussed with the right execution.

So, do we know if this is gonna stick around and survive the "Story Light"? Maybe even see new life?

@marni1971 would most likely know.

Btw does anyone have any info/photos/whereabouts of this figure (appears to be a lady in a white sweater) on the right side of the track near the original network ops scene ? It appears to have been removed between 1986 and 1994 (second pic)

Well I just went through about 20 videos on youtube to try and find a better look at her. The only videos that even shows the right side of the track at this point is Martins, which you seem to have taken screenshots from those by the looks of it.

Yep. That’s the only video I could find her in. She’s more mysterious than Window girl. All I could find were these quotes from @marni1971 from early on in the thread:

“Incidentally, for those born before 1994 :D , remember the AT&T Worldwide Intelligent Network scene (or even the Worldwide Network Control)? On the left of the track were 2 animatronics at desks with the 3 large wall maps. On the right of the track was another desk and another AA. Where the boy and girl are today playing video Karate. Well... apparently the right hand side set piece is still there, behind a black curtain. Don`t jump out to peek though!”

“The well known Network Ops wall maps and console were on the left, but there was a female AA, a console, and 3 overhead projection screens of data on the right of the track too; behind the cinema screen show scene, in the inside of the curve opposite the boys bedroom and the office scenes.”

I think I've only see one, maybe two other home movies over the years on youtube that quickly pan past the other side of the network operations rooms. Pretty unfortunate. Once they added the boy's bedroom and paperless office in the Cronkie version, audiences just turned their attention to the left side of the track and the easy flow to see the giant map on the wall.
