Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

So this was uploaded yesterday. Rare on ride footage of SSE in 1983, probably some of the oldest ride footage available.

Includes some rare sights including the Typekit Boy, right side network comms center with AA, left side comms center with glass panels and mainframe computer. Sadly the footage cuts off after the view of Earth so no astronauts or Window Girl unfortunately. The narration is also relatively clear although it is cut off in areas.

Has anyone ever considered trying to replicate the original Perrin narration with AI? I’ve heard some eerily accurate replications of voices before and you can make them read what you write so the original script could be easily utilized.

I’ll say that when I rode a few weeks ago the ride seemed to be in some strange B-mode or something of that nature. We rode just at closing time and were the last people on before park close. The lights were very bright, and the audio was extremely low. The omni-mover was moving much slower than usual as well for the duration of the ride. These strange conditions made searching for abandoned effects very easy. I clearly saw the spaceship as we descended. It’s very strange to see such a massive and impressive set piece sitting in total darkness. I also saw the abandoned elements of the 94 version on the descent like the graduation caps. Has it been brighter for anyone else lately? It definitely made it easier for me to spot these.

I also noticed a black curtain just behind the theater facade towards the end of the ascent. Is anything of note behind this? I know that this part of the ride is loaded with abandoned effects and scenes.

I recall hearing that some of the old animatronic/static figures were kept behind the scenes for some time but not sure if that’s still true.

Speaking of which it might be fun to note which ones have since been removed in the first place to my knowledge:

-Scaffolding Egyptian (Static figure attached to motor)
-Greek Theatre Performers
-Gutenberg Typekit/86 Computer Boy
-Right Side Network Comms Desk Lady
-Network Comms Man
-Network Comms/86 Paperless Office Lady
-Astronauts (x2 static)
-Keiko (static)
-Video chat boy (static)

Other AAs may be gone from their original scenes but have since been redressed and moved around over the years and are still present.

I noticed this too the other day. The descent was a lot brighter this time around. I don't know if maybe the screens in the ride vehicle had their brightness adjusted cause I looked around and those were the only sources of light.

Where could you see the graduation caps?

About halfway down the descent, if you look up and to the left (about a minute after you see the spaceship, give or take), you can see one of the old dioramas from the 94 version that they never removed. This one depicts a row of people with a couple of them wearing graduation caps. It looks almost like a plywood cutout that was painted black. Supposedly many of the dioramas are still there, just hidden in the dark. I saw a few other cool things, like areas in the walls that were set in a few feet where scenes used to be, but this was the only actual diorama that I could spot. This was the first time I didn’t play the build your own future game so I could sit back and look for remnants, and it was WELL worth it. Very cool stuff.
