The Bad News. They have *NOT* I repeat *NOT* really done much work inside the ride as reported before.

I rode, paying close attention to the show scenes. I found no noticeable increase in light levels; many of the fog/smoke effects were NOT working. Some notes:

Torch in caveman scene no smoke, burning fire in roman scene no smoke, fog around ships in Phoenician merchant scene (admittedly this one hasn't been there for a long while.)

Yes the steam effect in the newspaper scene is working, though it's not nearly as good as it once was.

The finale is STILL in bad shape. The video of the schoolroom kids creating things is very poor and out of focus. The laser effect is still MIA, as well as the mist that fell from the ceiling area to enhance the effect. The descent downward is still bad, and it’s missing the lighting strike effect it used to have.

Overall, the most noticeable change is the ATT logos are gone and the god-awful "We are watching you" monitor as you leave the loading station. I'm going to rant here, and say that they should just turn on the work lights in that whole section of the ride, as there is no point to it anymore. There is no "Suspense" or even a good into. Just way to many video screens with computer graphic animations that look like a bad Max Headroom take off.

No change at the unload area as well, you still walk out into a very empty and sad room. Walls all around the closed exhibits and NO sign of any work that might indicate an update soon.

Anyone in WDI care to give me a job in the "Show Quality" dept? I could point out more.

I always get a chuckle out of that ascent video. I guess they used Poser, since this same guy is in one of the vehicles:

Most of the fog/steam effects have been intermittently MIA long before AT&T pulled out.

The finale's virtual classroom projection and the two video chat projections were modified so that the AT&T logo would no longer be visible. Essentially it seems as though they placed a blue watermark over the area where the logo once was on each projection.

The lightning strike seen on the right as you descend back to earth is still working as of a couple days ago.

Nothing amazing is going to happen until SE is able to go down for a long update. As of right now the improvements made have been cosmetic and fairly simplistic - just like the changes over at the Carousel of Progress. The ride is hardly being driven into the ground, IMO.

yea but surely something will be done to Spaceship Earth for Epcots 25th. in 2007 right?

Well you would think so, but it wouldn't suprise me if nothing happened to SSE but an overhaul of the post show.

Even then, I'd be very happy to actually have a post show again. I was sad when AT&T pulled out because I had liked the area. With the new sponsorship, it will breathe new life into the attraction.

So far, I had noticed a few cosmetic changes to the outside of SSE. I like the new design, the blues look very nice. I agree that things on the ride have needed a refurbishment for a long time. I'm actually pleased that they have been able to change a few minor things at a time without many of us noticing it. When it goes down for rehab/refurb, hopefully we will have other rides still operational. The way it looks is like TT is down for the moment, but as soon as it's operational, SSE will go down. Once that is operational, then Epcot can focus on another attraction that needs TLC.

By staggering out the downtimes, I imagine that by 2007 we will have a new, current Future World, and be working on updating the World Showcase as well.

sse questions

i am a bit of a n00b here at wdwmagic, and dont even know what the new sse sponsor is! i also have no clue what the old postshow was. i just remember an empty room with a bunch of windows or something.

i like the current version, but it would be nice if they updated the technology that they use to create that "wonkeyness" that is classic of spaceship earth.

The new sponsor is Siemens.

The old post show was the global village, about information, communication and technology. It was sponsored by AT&T and had a few different areas that you could enjoy. It's been awhile since they closed the section, but I remember there were little sound rooms. Wow... I'm drawing a blank.

Seems like there just gonna run it into the ground untill they overhaul it. Sort of like what Disneyland did with Space Mountain.

ugh......things don't happen overnight

TT has been under rehab, and closing another key attraction at the same time would not be a good idea.

I would expect them to wait for a slower period when no other rehabs are planned.....or until the next phase of TLS opens.

Sounds like one of us got in the ride on a much different day than the other. I was there around the same time as the OP (in the other thread) and saw many of the improved effects that were mentioned. But things do change from day to day. I saw the steam at the big wheel both days, but the wheel wasn't moving one of those days. The torch has always been working when I was there. So minor things may go down from day to day, but overall, I believe there has been some improvement. So either I got in on a good day this last time, or Lazer got in on a bad one.

The post show was called global nieghborhood and featured a big round simulation ride and lots of smaller kiosks that did different things all connecting with communication technology such as new translation programs where you can talk and a program will translate what you say in different languages... also I recall something to do with voice command (which everyone now has on thier cell phones) where your host was the cheshire cat..also one i really liked was a station where you could call someone with all these noises in the background like you were in the jungle or several other places... it was neat... the global nieghborhood really added allot to the total experience of SSE... if your lucky and ask the ride attendant about it at the end of the ride he might show you some of the old stuff behind the walls like he did for me... it was pretty sad that its all just sitting there still.. gathering dust

I remember waiting in line for nearly an hour to ride SSE back in the mid-80s. It was probably my favorite ride from the early days of Epcot. When I rode in Dec., I thought, "What has happened to this great ride? It is so retro." When I rode it a second time in Dec., I realized that there is still great potential in it. They need to shut it down for a major overall but not change the essential presentation.

I really hope they get rid of those "WARNING YOUR VECHILE WILL GO BACKWARDS" videos in the next rehab. First of all, they ruin the beginning of the ride and second of all, what the heck is the point of warning people when they are ALREADY ON the ride???? they totally ruin the experince for me and thats probably why I havent been on SSE in a long time. They should move the videos into the queue OR just have a big sign that says that.
