Spaceship Earth Rehab?

I have heard the rumour about a SE rehab late this year. I am planning a trip in Nov, and would be really disappointed if SE was closed.

How far in advance can we expect official confirmation of rehabs?

Usually a month or so out. But I would probably say it will be open.

Pirates and Spaceship Earth are both **rumored** to be going down for extended rehabs beginning this fall. It's all rumor now and I would not reshedule a trip over this.

It could use it. Between wheelchair delays and some sort of problem we spent over 45 minutes on it last month. My girlfriend and I got well aquainted with the top level. We sat there for twenty minutes or so while mechanics rushed back and forth on the walkway next to the track.

I hope they bring back the old music if they do refurb it. I love "Tomorrow's Child". Miss the old Walter Cronkite narration too.

Epcot's 25th anniversary is coming in 2007 so now would be a good time to give the park's marquee attraction a good sprucing up.
Or just not use the outside and use the wand as a support post for a high speed thrill ride to circle around the sphere. Yeah, that's the rumor we have right now. Not to fun, is it?

And as far as Pirates goes, expect it to close at the end of the year for a Small World like rehab.

Great! We have found a sure way to get the wand to collapse... anyone say `Rocket Rods`?

No way. The music used now is the most beautiful music I have ever heard on a theme park attraction.

I pray they don't replace Ido Guidoti's score of SSE, the score is by far the best IMO of any attraction in Disney or elsewhere for that matter.

I agree hands down the best Soundtrack next to POTC in WDW :)

The only way I would want "Tomorrow's Child" to come back to SSE would first of all have to be updated with new musical instruments, a new lead singer, and children.

I could accept it as just plain instrumental area music, OR as we are heading down backwards, they could have a specific scene where I dunno an Audio Animatronic Woman and Audio Animatronic Children [think Horizons children not small world children  ]...are all gathered together blaring out "tomorrow's child" wearing "futuristic" clothing as reflecting prisms reflect the sihouetts of children and adults...

yea it sounds phycadelic...but anyway after we pass that scene then we hear the current orchestral song...which I agree is quite nice.

I also support an overhaul of the climax of the show. LOL I spy astronauts and a sattelite dish. I would also suppot a more advanced star field, etc.

Does anyone else think we should bring back the "Earth Station" It could be very generic and not involve what the Bell System/AT&T did...it could be modern futuristic, or jules vern and could have large plasmas overhead showing us what Epcot hs to offer. We could have new touch tone screens..remember those ;) ...and maybe have an area where we can ask an Epcot host/robot questions about Epcot.

I miss the old Cronkite narration.....would love to hear James Earl Jones as a new narrator. Jeremy Irons gets a "just ok" vote from me.

I`m all for a new verison of Tomorrows Child.. used in conjuction with the `94 score (I too think it is one of the best park scored period) but I do miss TC. Still seeking the source audio from the ride version as well (got a tiny bit closer..)

I have a daft theory that if and when a major rehab that keeps an Omnimover (or hybrid) as the ride vehicle happens, they will extend the track into the old Global Neighborhood (still shuttered I assume - interesting!)

This would be a perfect place to have a larger load and unload area, and new Tomorrows Child finale, and as a bonus have the existing load/unload area to use for new show scenes pre time vortex (with the smoke brought back)

Welcome to my blue sky world!

I agree with the new show scene. I actually would love to see the cars stay on level two and circle a large working model of Walt's EPCOT. The, you unload and can walk up to the model and see descriptions of the contents of the city.

Otherwise, I think Global Neighborhood should become the new Communicore. Move the tip board screens to outside and move priority seating/tip counselors/etc. into this area as well.

I think there are a lot of options, but I agree that the 25th is a prime opportunity to have a refurb (as I anticipate we probably will see at the end of the 50th celebration). I just hope we lose that darn wand.

Of all the rumored rehabs/closures/etc. at WDW, this one makes me the most nervous. Spaceship Earth is my absolute favorite attraction, and I think it's a wonderful example of what Disney does best. I would HATE to see it turned into a thrill ride! I'm all for a "sprucing up" type of rehab to keep it in good shape, and they can change the ending scenes to be more modern, but I hope they keep the animatronics and the slow-moving aspect of this attraction.

What children holding hands? :veryconfu Either you are thinking of a different song/attraction or I just don't remember anything besides the song. Anyone else shed some light on this??
