Spaceship Earth not finished?

Is it true that pretty much the entire old ending sequence is still there behind those curtains?
Roughly half of it is.
What were the workers and imagineers doing during the refurb? Just sitting around playing cards?
Rolls eyes.... again, don`t blame Glendale. Blame TDO, and Epcot upper management. They pulled the funding.

The former descent was imaginative and truly forward thinking. Sadly, the new descent is indeed the Jetsons. It is not imaginitave at all, and it literaly looks as though Disney watched a season of the Jetsons and decided to put the Jetson technologies on a video screen.

The choice Disney made is certainly much easier than trying to update and re-imagine the old scenes with legitamate ideas. I suppose Disney figures if they reach far enough in the video with rediculous concepts they will never have to update the descent again.

A snipit that really annoys me from the video "here are some new technoligies that happen we know about". The video proceeds to show a skier breaking their arm and then a Jetson's machine non-invasively spray paints a new bone in the skiers arm.

I mean come on ... Disney really has knowledge of such things. Give me a break! (no pun intended).

In Disney's defense, I beleive that comment about some "amazing new technology" refers to the facial recognition/picture taking software thats used to put your face in the video. Of course, that technology is harldy 'new'; its been around for some time, but that is what that line is talking about.

As for the rest of the flash picture descent, it really is a disgrace. The idea of the screens had merit, but the application of them is awful. And its much too comical and far fetched to be believeable (the healed spray painted bone, the self packing suitcase, etc.).

I suppose someday if Siemens were truly interested they could come back and "demand" the elements be added and or changed if they gave more funding. But it doesnt look like they give a flip or have any plans whatsoever to put more money into it. Instead "just getting by with a ride through ugly decay" seems to suit them and Disney just fine. Or its Epcot management and TDO that doesnt give a flip apparently as well, but either way to have your name on an attraction like that and then not finish what was started is pretty bad and they should be embarassed.

ps: does it do any good to send a letter to the current new vp of Epcot? or is that a lost cause at this point. His name escapes me at the moment but just curious. Because writing Siemens has done no good, they dont want to hear it. Been that route lol.

Ah....This fun topic, again. :D

*sigh*
Finished. As in they are no longer working on it.
Also incomplete. As in there are more elements that were to be added (were being worked on) that are not currently present.
One day...when either Disney or Siemens decides to fund it, all the remaining elements will be added to make it complete.
Quite the perfect example, Lee. That's exactly what's up with it.

I am under the impression that Disney is waiting WHOLY on Siemens to finish the job. I was also under the impression that they would have begun to fund it again, already, seeing Oct 1 2009 was the start of the "second" new fiscal year for the new SSE.

Replace "pretty much" in your post with "quite a bit" and you will be correct.:animwink:

I assume you mean the sets? Heard that MiniSSE and Glitter City were gutted...

The glitter city is def gone, that whole area is empty except for those stupid glowing four triangles....I think the pepperghost sets could be behind the curtains. MiniSSe gone too. :brick:

I suppose it is possible that is what they are referring too. I will have to pay more attention the next time I ride SE, but if the photograph is what they are referring too it does not really make the line any better. imho.

Blame Glendale for the poor writing and design choices.

I think that is a legitimate argument. TDO might have pulled the funding, but the script and current video applications are certainly WDI.

There other areas as well like the Matrix tunnel which is really poorly designed and executed.

Listening to Bob Zalk's comments are very embarrasing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILVhfsSbSDo

"When a guest gets off a ride, its important for me - for them to feel that they can affect their future, that they can affect their kid's future."

Which attraction is Mr. Zalk talking about because it sure as heck isn't SSE '07. If there was ever a version of SSE that DID make someone feel that way, it was the version that he had just spent seven months gutting!!!! Does he have a clue what is coming out of his mouth??? :brick::dazzle:

And on a completely unrelated note, who made the decision to cut those cool flashing blue lights at the beginning of the ascent? Those looked really neat and made for a much more visually appealing beginning of the ride.

Wow you are so right...feeling empowerment when you get off the ride? Dont think so. Previous version for sure yes,,what was he smoking lol?
Is there a way to send him a letter?

Something pretty mind-altering is what. He is certainly under the influence of some pixie dust. :hammer:

Oh, I agree, it certainly doesn't. Its a neat application of facial recognition software, yes, but to say its "new" or "amazing" and that they just "happen to know about" it is ridiculously stupid.

Hopefully they will continue work sooner rather than later. It's such a shame to be so bored for the descent of this ride.

Yeah, I know. :(

Hopefully (and this is just be) they put updated versions back there.

I do too....It makes no sense. Unless they were to actually TALK about tech in the (new?) Descent...:lookaroun

sounds to me like...

"the old story was about communication, the new story is about mankind teaching mankind in the next generation teaching us about mankind into the next generation.....see each generation essentially creates mankind for the next generation ahhhh F*&% it!!!!"
What I hear is The old story of Spaceship Earth was the history of communication. The new story is the history of communication dumbed down so that people don't complain about big words they don't understand or marble cleavage' and an episode of the Jetsons thrown in for fun.

Umm...No....It was changed from Communication to Futurism and Tech because the sponsor, Seimens wanted it to be, seeing that it's a company that deals in those industries. The dumbing down just came with that.
