Spaceship Earth descent

:inlove: If nothing else it may help to convince that the ride stops happened even when it was new. Many don't believe that it is usually to help someone on or off the ride. :happy:
I'm so glad it did. Without it I would have missed the often neglected right hand side of the Network Ops Center :)

And I got the great close ups of a long lost show scene. With lovely coloured text on a CRT screen!

Isn't most of that rubbish stuff that guests have thrown out of their vehicles?
Some could be, some couldn't get up there from below.

The dust and cobwebs though.... The buildings airflow dictates the descent tunnel gets dirty quickly. And needs cleaning as fast. Something the current.... decor.... wasn't designed for.

That 180Top thread we did way back in the day was so much fun. Remember when members on here would ride at park closing to use flash pictures to see what was still there? And it all started with me finding that picture someone posted on Flickr years ago, finally confirming that there was a satellite and astronaut in Spaceship Earth (now we know there were two!)

I think the only things left from 1982 up in 180Top are the cardboard cutouts of moon rock that are bolted to the hand railings when you need to be evacuated, like I was in 2007. The space station set is still there, all painted over in black, covered in the endless effect of blue lights. What amazed me is how big the window prop is!

It has to be at least 10 feet tall. The window frame itself isn't that big, but the actual prop is huge!

Martin, has there every been any confirmation what happened to the girl in the window in the 94 refurb? I've heard she's still there, became Keiko in the 94 refurb, or is now the girl in the caveman scene.

The best version (IMHO)

Today's is a waste of a vast amount of show space for an age that can't hold their concentration more than 5 minutes.

If they just the only thing they would only have to change is the script, maybe the audio and update some hardware from time to time. Those cheapskates could have saves millions in scenery.

OK, will do. Thanks for the answers everyone.

The ride seemed great today... Burning smell in Rome and the wheel was spinning great today too. Yeah, the paper boy looking away is a little weird, but I'd have to agree about it being more weird trying to sell into the press room. But then again, why even have an animatronic you can't really see.

Ugh I love that smell LOL.

After that wonderful thread I made a point last trip to really look around up there, and it was amazing seeing the space station right there where I had unknowingly passed under it for years.

I could never remember what all was up there because for my first trip in 91 I was 6 and remember very little. I remember very little of the '94 version as well, but it is much better documented.
Ugh I love that smell LOL.

I liked everything about the 1994 version:
* The Narration
* The Score
* The Descent
* The Newsboy Facing The Cars
LOL!! But in all honesty, I don't mind the new descent, although it could use some pizazz :)

As far as garbage is concerned, I haven't noticed any, and I go to WDW almost once a month.

I'm so glad they turned that paper boy around! After being stuck next to him for fifteen or twenty minutes and listening to him yell all that time, I kind of hate him and was so happy he's off in the distance.

I didn't like the mom saying goodnight to her son on the computer and am happy that was replaced, too.

I do very much enjoy the new descent with the various screens. I am not a big fan of computers and screens at WDW, but that is a nice use of them. It's interesting and funny. The first time we did it, my friend and I laughed so hard. :)

I do HATE this narration, though, and long for Jeremy Irons and the "East, West, North and South..." part.
