Space Mountain Track

Hi, I just started my Christmas shopping and remember seeing somewhere that you can purchase a piece of the space mountain track that was recently replaced. Does anyone know where I can purchase this item? Also does anyone have any suggestions for a ten year old boy who loves Disney but owns almost every disney item ever made?

Thanks

As far as I know, if they replaced any track it was sent to be melted down and recycled... not sold, but if you find a piece of the track for sale, then I got a bridge in Tampa you could have...

i thought i read they replaced it with updated stuff so the ride was smoother now?

They only replaced pieces that absolutely HAD to be replaced. They were SUPPOSED to replace the entire track ala Disneyland but that got struck down really fast after the refurb was announced. They mostly did reinforcement.

I remember the good old days when the rumor was they were going to remove the roof, gut the entire thing, and make it amazing.

Yeah, right...

It wasnt changed or replace just parts that were rusted that NEEDED to be replace ... other than that it is same track same design same everything

I read there was "smoothing" of track sections (through replacement) but the layout was the same. IMO the ride road a lot easier than i remember. My fiance has back problems and felt the same way, but then sometimes it's hard to compare :)

I know that ride used to scare the crap out of me but it didn't bother me as much this time.

Actually I thought that they were having a sweepstakes to win a piece of the track, there was an advert in an issue of the D23 magazine I thought.

Yes, they did replace some track. Whether or not it is for sale...I have no idea.
One person that would have it in the event that some one is selling it is Mouse Surplus. I would bet, hypothetically of course, if there was track, and it was for sale, 99.9% of people on this site probably couldn't afford it (ie: the Horizons vehicle and old SM trains)

I went on tonight, I took this from my blog:

I went on Space Mountain. The games seemed interesting, and were definitely a nice touch. The queue seemed to be a bit more organized even though I wasn't quite sure I understood the total layout. The ride itself was smoother, but I don't think the ride would ever be completely smooth given how close the ride is to the actual track. On other coasters the rider has more space between themselves and the track leaving more room for other things to absorb any imperfections in the track and/or wheels. I enjoyed the modified launch tunnel and new signs in the load area. I wish they had continued this style along to the "20 seconds until blast off" signs as well. Space Mountain was darker, but because of the enclosed queue, it was eerily quiet. I particularly liked the post show as it was reminiscent of Horizons.
