I must be getting old, SM just don't do it for me anymore. I would rather play a round of Buzzlightyear instead.

But somehow I think you know that too and are just trying to build a case to convince us that the painful ride experience is all part of a well thought out plan on the part of the people who built it.

But not everyone finds Space Mountain painful. I think that is more the point. Some people like it bouncy.

To me, complaining that SM is too rough and should be smoothed out is like saying the Teacups are too spinny and should be nailed down. Some people like the bumps, and some people don't. You can't please everyone. If you don't like a ride, move on to one you do. Don't demand a ride be changed just to suit "you" as it won't suit everyone the same.

I'm in my mid 20s and I find Space Mountain to be an uncomfortable mess. And yes, it's far from the roughest coaster I've ever been on, but that does excuse the ride. The coaster is not, contrary to some opinions in this thread, supposed to be rough. It was supposed to be a sweeping, soaring flight through space. Not a bumpy ride more akin to offroading.

The ride would still be thrilling without bouncing all over the place, and it would be a hell of a lot more fun.

This. 100x this.

Also mid-20s and have ridden quite a few coasters, and find Space to be on the needlessly uncomfortable side. If I want to have my butt kicked around on a ride, I'll head back to Holiday World and ride Voyage (never had so much fun getting such a beating from a ride!), but even that doesn't have me leaving the platform wishing I could get a back adjustment. Maybe a different wheel composition would help it a bit if they don't want to replace the entire track. Also, I've always thought tightening up the wheel assemblies to have the inboard steering and upstops actually riding the rails the entire time would help with the ride experience for most Arrow coasters (if you've never noticed, most Arrows have a fair amount of play between the steering/upstop wheels and the track).

SM remains one of my favorite rides at the MK. I have a partially herniated and two bulging disks and this ride does not exasperate my problems whatsoever. I guess it really comes down to the fact that everyone is put together differently and each rider experiences every ride in a different way. I could argue that I don't like Splash Mountain because on the final drop my knees get banged up on the front of the seating area as I brace for the drop...but I do in fact love the ride in spite of that and would take sore knees any day for all the fun I have.

I hope this thread can get back on track instead of all these barbie doll politics and name calling. It is an internet forum and no matter where you go they thrive on controversy and internet authorities.

This isn't a case of demanding a ride be "changed" so much as "repaired" (which I realize is technically a "change", but I'm sure you see my point). Many of us on the side of saying Space Mountain is too bumpy feel that way not because we think it was DESIGNED to be so rough, but more because we think it has become more that way over the years. Granted, I would personally love it if they would completely update the track using more modern methods to make it a smoother ride, so in that regard is an all out "change" something I would love to see? Yes! But am I "demanding" that change (as you've stated)? No, of course not.

I guess following the logic in your post, it would kind of be like saying, "If you don't like the fact that the Yeti doesn't work, then just don't ride Everest. Stop demanding a change." Space Mountain is a ride that I traditionally have always enjoyed and has been one of my favorites, but it has become a lot rougher over the years. I would like to be able to enjoy it again by not feeling beat up afterward. I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation.
