The final version should be making it's debut in the next 8-12 weeks, I believe.
Like mcjaco said, it's pretty much done. (But hidden from view and/or switched off.)

Lee and Marni are correct, early 2010.We are doing some work in SM during the refurb, and from what we have been told we are not scheduled at this point till after Thankgiving or later. And to add,Sure if a new roller coaster is planned far enough in advance to fabricate the ride system the track can be installed in 3-4 months like Manta. But the difference is Manta was built out in the open.SM ride is inside the building that was built around it,after the track was assembled.

Ummm... did I miss something? I've gotten the blue triangles and the curtain thing... but... behind the curtain? What's going on?

Try Again.. SM Primary track assembly was AFTER the SMbuilding was built (the superstructure at least)... and the simple fact that this 're-do' is being done indoors means that weather is MUCH less of a factor than other rehabs.. the show building for SM is HUGE, plenty of workspace...... A lot of people don't realize the buffer space in that building..

Meanwhile, Disney has said november internally and extrenally.. Until THEY revise the schedule, or blow past the date without a re-open, I won't believe it..

Additionally, it could be that they are doing it in 2 phases... similar to SSE..

Finally, what kind of work are you doing? is it painting work, electrical, water, fire , what? That information would make it easier to devise whether or not the attraction could operate BEFORE your work is complete....

As far as I've heard they've only said November externally. Everything I've heard coming from inside is 2010.

Couple of points:
-Disneyland's new Space Mtn. took, from the beginning of real work until reopening, about 18 months. Granted, WDW's work isn't quite that extensive, but seven months....nah. Not unless the project has been scaled back again.

-Being inside is not a huge help. The bulk of SM's construction took place after the roof was on, but without the walls. Big difference now.

-SM is not an ordinary coaster. It's not just a matter of pouring some footings in an empty field, then erecting supports and attaching track.
First, they gotta tear it out. That is tricky, considering the way it is built. Lots more structure there than a normal coaster.
Second, they have to get the new parts in and assembled. Again, not as easy as on a normal coaster.
Third, lots of work to be done that isn't coaster related. Asbestos removal. Building an enclosure for the load. Remodeling load, unload, pre-and postshows and queue. Installing visual effects.
Fourth, test and adjust. That by itself can take a month.

November....I just don't see how it's possible without working three shifts and six day weeks. Then maybe it could be done, but would increase the budget by a ton.

Heck - look at Manta over at SeaWorld. It only took them, what, 3 months to put the track together (it started going vertical Sept 20th ish - and the last piece was put on Dec 12th). A roller coaster CAN be put together rather quickly if all the parts are already there, waiting to go.
And you already have the ground work done for SM - soo, it is possible, I would say for it to be done in Nov.

The same thing is happening with Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit, and that is a much more spread out coaster, considering all the places it goes.

Both of those coasters are going up very quickly. I see the Rip, Ride, Rockit every morning and am surprised how quickly it's going up.

The longest part of any coaster construction is putting in the footings. With SM they are already there. So it's going to be whether they decide to swap out all of the supports or just the track which is going to decide the length of downtime. If it's just the track then I can see this time frame being very realistic.
