Space Mountain roof recoating now underway?

Exactly, it is very good-looking, but it certainly doesn't fit in with the classic vintage theme of the future that Tomorrowland at MK and DL has
You mean that vintage 1970s vision of the future? Ewww.

SM in Paris has a more contemporary, modern style that (while I do enjoy it) wouldn't fit IMO
You've kinda got it backwards. SM and Discoveryland in Paris is themed to a Victorian version of the future. Way more vintage and classic than the US Tomorrowlands. Nothing contemporory or modern about it.

SM Paris looks absolutely incredible in person. The photos even don't do it justice. It has to be one of the best looking park attractions anywhere.

I know a closure hasn't been announced yet but will this "recoating" require them to close SM for any amount of time? Or will it mostly be done when the park is closed at night?

Heck, they could do it during the day and not affect the guests - except visually. No closure necessary.

I would hope not and don't really think so. If it did, however, I'd need to know so I can cancel my upcoming January trip.

Although very striking, I would think the Paris roof would be a nightmare to maintain and keep clean. I think we will get a fresh coat of special paint and the cool and funky lighting at WDW.

I saw some crews up there yesterday and I wondered what that was all about. I guess that answers my question, I did think the mountain was a little whiter than usual.

Add me to the classic list...but Paris is pretty neat looking...

Meh... the exterior of Paris' Space Mountain, while incredible, is screaming the 1800s, Jules Verne look, with lots of faux wrought-iron trimmings and a giant cannon that is supposed to launch riders into space. It's perfectly themed to the surrounding Discoveryland, which has a completely different theme from WDW's Tomorrowland, in that it's supposed to be Steampunk.

In other words, it wouldn't really fit MK's Tomorrowland at all. MK's Space Mountain is ultra-modernist, with solid white and simple geometry, and therefore suited MK's original Tomorrowland perfectly. The challenge is how to theme it to the current comic book/1930s-style Tomorrowland without completely disrupting the look of what is arguably one of the most iconic structures of WDW. I'm with those that say adding the nighttime lighting projection package... although I think adding some neon blue lighting around the rings or towers on top would look really classy, and fit the Tomorrowland theme really well.

100% agree with all of this. I'd like to see a TRON-esque vibe added to WDW's SM lighting. Nothing wrong with having every SM have a different "character" theming.

Add me to the list of keeping the classic look but adding the lighting package.

DLP's looks nice but IMO there's almost too much going on to where it almost, not quite but almost, looks like an eyesore.

I'm gonna go with Steve though and say it probably looks better in person. Sadly, I've just never had the drive to leave this country except a couple trips to Niagra Falls in Canada.

I'm glad Space Mountain is finally getting the repaint it deserves; bringing everything in Tomorrowland back to a gleaming white is going to look great.

I hope the long-term Tomorrowland overhaul also includes removing all of the faux rocks from the entry corridor and bringing cleaner lines and colors back.

I saw the Copper, Green and Gold Space Mountain in Disneyland in 2003.

Not something I would ever want to see again. Was ugly beyond belief.

Would love to get to DLP, TDL, TDS and HKDL some day.
