How long did that DL space mountain last? Did they paint it white again after many complaints or something?

1998 to 2004. It was repainted white while the ride was closed for 2 years. The rest of the green and gold color scheme of Tomorrowland 98 was almost completely removed in 2005 right before Disneyland's 50th anniversary.

I guess I'm just odd...
I loved DL's Tomorrowland 98 color scheme. The lack of budget really hurt the execution, but I loved the theme.

And for the record, I don't advocate a direct lift of the Paris SM exterior for MK. Just something cool to bring it in line with the rest of the land. Neon and lights, of course.

Meh... the exterior of Paris' Space Mountain, while incredible, is screaming the 1800s, Jules Verne look, with lots of faux wrought-iron trimmings and a giant cannon that is supposed to launch riders into space. It's perfectly themed to the surrounding Discoveryland, which has a completely different theme from WDW's Tomorrowland, in that it's supposed to be Steampunk.

In other words, it wouldn't really fit MK's Tomorrowland at all. MK's Space Mountain is ultra-modernist, with solid white and simple geometry, and therefore suited MK's original Tomorrowland perfectly. The challenge is how to theme it to the current comic book/1930s-style Tomorrowland without completely disrupting the look of what is arguably one of the most iconic structures of WDW. I'm with those that say adding the nighttime lighting projection package... although I think adding some neon blue lighting around the rings or towers on top would look really classy, and fit the Tomorrowland theme really well.

This! I would absolutely love to see that happen to SM. It would keep it classic while still moving Tomorrowland a little farther towards a newer futuristic vision. :D

Lifting the tron inspired look they gave the boss battle on top of Space Mountain in Epic Mickey would be neat for at night and could be done very easily with lights and projectors.
