Space Mountain Exterior Refurbishment

A few of those Spacemountain construction images here
Does not look like the track was built first. Not sure if this is Disneyland or Disney World but either way Looks like the dome was built first, Sans the vertical sides.

I notice Disney sidestepped the whole VR thing directly. Even Six Flags has them.. but they are usually seen as trying to update a fairly old ride.. and I'm not sure Disney wants to have that appearance. Plus.. no thanks.. pinkeye express. Ugh.

They seem technically cool and practically dumb to me.

It's technically cool that they have them and can synch them with the ride.

It seems like a great way to make people vomit and I'm not so sure I want to be the next guy wearing the, I'd guess, fairly heavy heat apparatus with sweat moisten straps. Add to it that there's no way it doesn't increase load and unload times for coaster.

They make no sense.

Oh- I agree. It'd look beyond out of place over here. Just shows what WDI is capable of- they can actually make a cohesive area if they have the budget and will for it. The exterior of Space is going to need some work done to integrate well with the speedway being in front of it as well as Tron next door.
Lighting would do wonders- and I'm curious if this might be the beginning stages of that.

Well, speedway is already in front of it.. I'd more expect to see the Tron roof change, than the already there (and part of the structure) SM roof. Who knows? We may just get more color splashed around, (like the rocks are currently at the bridge), so the blue of Tron doesn't stick out like a sore thumb against the white.

That's DL. They did the roof differently there. that big hollow spire was never in Fla. The Fla one they put up four big plyons in the middle, built the central roof on top of that, and then worked down and out. In California, they did the outer concrete walls first, and used a big girder system that has the cone shape, to enclose the space.

This is Disneyland.

Here's Orlandos track going in with a completed roof but incomplete walls:

Thanks. Especially with the word Matterhorn on one of the pictures, I was relatively sure that it was not Disney World's but rather Disneyland's. But being that they were built relatively in a close time frame to each other I assumed the construction process would be the same. Looks like it was. Roof first, coaster second, sides last. That said it does look like construction techniques have since changed and I know they definitely built the track for rock and roller coaster first, and then the building. I'm also guessing Space Mountain at Hong Kong Disneyland was billed track first and then the building?

Yes, Hong Kong had the base built, then the track was craned in, then the roof was added. Paris was similar.

I can't imagine they're preparing SM for a Tron theme that's still 3-4 years off. They're slow but not that bad!
