Some views of the exit today. The walkways are your standard temporary scaffold ramps that you might find at a festival or outdoor event.

Also the queue games have been removed.

And finally (sorry no photo) they have been adding some new alien script (like Star Wars alphabet) around the loading area.

Those last two things are pretty interesting. This whole refurb's been carrying a weird feeling with it.

Clearly this is where they've finally decided the Stitch animatronic should go: "Stitch Mountain" coming to you Spring 2019 :hilarious:

It didn't look like this, right?

The games weren't really useful anyway since the line moves so frequently, it just became annoying (IMO)
Especially since the line moves through that area so fast. It's the switch backs that drag on. And that awkward hallway right after the split. The games are nice little time passer but if they're gone, then I won't miss them. It just means you can listen to Star Tunnel instead of hearing "pew pew" noises.

People do realize that Disney has designed rides before Everest, right? You don't design anything, ANYTHING, that moves like the Yeti without the ability to remove it when it breaks. Things that move, like Animatronics, don't last as long as things that don't, like walls. They know that and planned accordingly.

But they do make mistakes. Like when they built the Tower of Terror without realizing that some day they may need to remove the motors (theory was they could just do maintenance in-place). In early 1998 they had to replace a motor and literally had to cut a hole in the building to remove it. Subsequent versions were built with maintenance access doors.

I know, I know...pics or it didn’t happen!!! I recall seeing pics back in the day but a quick Google search didn’t bring up anything. I did, however, find this post from March 21, 1998 on rec.arts.disney.parks:
“There is a black sheet covering the area between the two drops on the
building's front. It appears that a hole has been cut into the building's
front in order to replace the failed motor.”

Yep, the games weren't really needed much of the time since the switchbacks hold so many people.

Now if we could get the stupid warning announcement moved to just before the loading area (right in front of the control tower would be perfect). Whoever approved putting it in the star tunnel managed to ruin what had been one of the most atmospheric areas of WDW. There needs to be a verbal ride warning? Fine. But don't overlay it on the star tunnel music.

Originally people said it was just the ramp that was getting worked on.... Is it now confirmed the exit scenes are getting some much needed love?
