Space Mountain.....Down for ALL of 2008?

Space Mountain is supposed to be a trip through space.
The current clickety-clack noise of the coaster and the bumpy ride interfere with the intended feeling of zooming smoothly through the stars and planets.

It would be nice if they could make the coaster smoother, like Rock-n-Roller Coaster.

Space Mountain has been thriling guests non-stop for over 35 years, and it is still as popular as ever. It deserves a good year-long rest and to get as much TLC as Disney can offer. I would HATE IT if it was closed when I went, but I'd rather have Space Mountain still be there 35 years from now, still being considered a must-see attraction.

It is on the work order for june and they have decided it will be at least a yr or maybe longer. And a few weeks ago Bob Iger was there...

It's amazing how rumors can spread and suddenly become fact, isn't it? And Bob Iger was down for the executive retreat, a mini working vacation where the top brass from Burbank can all come to WDW, do some meetings and some planning away from the desk's they have in California. That means nothing.

TTA down time is to refurb it maybe retheme it and the put it back through space once they start to put the new track back in since tta might go through differently.

Uh huh, don't hold your breath sir.

And besides, we can back-and-forth as much as we like. The only way any of us are going to know if we are right is to see when it actually happens.

I was asked to give my intake on SM this past september by a surveyer, and I was more than happy to do it. (Considering the lines were short and it was the off season my first time going to WDW during such, so I was willing) Anyway I think I remember him asking me to rate the ride and he asked the usual, "Why that number" or something like that, and I said, because it was one of the first rollercoasters I rode, and I like it just the way it is.

With that said, Im hoping this refurb is to improve the overall maintenance and such of the ride, as oppossed to completely gutting it and changing it. Like I said on another thread, when and if they do close and change it, esp. if its like a rrcnr with a space theme with loud music and such, I know when my ap expires.

Uh-oh...looks like we cancelled each other out. I told a research guy it was a rusty pile of junk and need to be gutted and built over from scratch.
Nice!
Course...I also told that to someone from park ops...and a couple Imagineers...

Ahhh Research. Was this the typical Rides and Attractions exit survey (done by the park gate as to what rides you went on) or a special Ad-Hoc survey actually done at Space Mountain?

If it was the former, your feedback probably won't be much more than squat, sadly. Also the program prompts the surveyor to ask why if you give it a very negative score.

Really TTA too? That just sucks. My kids are preschoolers and LOVE that ride! Can't they just cover the SM part during construction and then if needed just close TTA for a little bit while big time work is happening. TTA is a big people eater too, I think TL would be very dead with both down. All that is left is Buzz now with a huge wait with out SM, Monsters, Stich, Indy speedway, AO and CP. Pehaps now CP will be open all the time, not just seasonally.

Thats cool, I would refer to that more with rockin roller coaster, it being so short and loud and way bumpier than SM, but imo Sm is classic for me.

OK, but seriously, how could they keep the TTA up and running if SM is under construction? Does a spur track exist to avoid the building? I would guess that for safety purposes they wouldn't be able to run the TTA while heavy machinery is in the building. If the TTA inside is anything like TTA out in the open, support beams every 30 or 50 feet from the ground up could be a concern.

When I was there in December, a cast member mentioned that they only know that they're getting some gates for the loading area. I'd agree, because that's the only coaster I've ever seen that doesn't have gated loading.

Call me crazy, but I would really hate the loss of the queue music in a rehab. I currently love how the music starts out, and loses instruments as you go further into the tunnel. Then it turns into that crazy ambient space background. Everything is in sync though, and I'll bet it sounds good if you could layer it all together. But if it goes, I really will miss it.

No, but technically the WEDway garage area bypasses the attraction area (on your left as you enter and exit the mountain on the TTA) although it is rather, well, unthemed to say the least. Apart from that, only the section below the launch hills is directly under the structure. Whether this would involve a TTA closure for a few weeks or similar whilst the hills and area are worked on, or just a few days whilst a protective canopy is built over the Peoplemover track I don`t know. Apart from that some black tarps along the queue wall could keep the TTA moving.

Assuming, as said elsewhere, the time isn`t used to give the TTA a major overhaul - it`s first now for 14 years. It won`t be the first time both attractions were under rehab at the same time. The SM rehab should involve exterior work on the show building, satellite building, and redundant neighbour as well I`m told so perhaps the TTA may close whilst this is worked on.

While I do hope that Space gets a good and much needed refurb I don't see how they could keep one of the most popular rides closed for an entire year. Haunted Mansion's closure made me depressed for months before our trip this past June.

My guess is TTA would have to close for safety reasons (and hopefully overhauled). There are rumors of a rethemed TTA coming back to DL so maybe it will happen at MK also :D
OK, I can't help but ask, what is a "redundant neighbour"?????

That' sounds like a long downtime. A wile ago, they closed Space mountain in Disneyland Paris, for a wile too. It had a big refurb, and the actraction, now called Space Mountain: Mission 2, is more populair, than the original version. So, it could work out realy well, for u guys too
