I'm glad so many people KNOW that Space Mountain is going down for refurb.

Good luck with that
Well, it's been stated in multiple forums throughout the internet--from insiders. And on a podcast I listen to, an imagineer did basically spill the beans about an upcoming refurb on the attraction. So, I'd say there's a relatively good chance it will get done. (Or at least something will get refurbed, big or small, we shall see.) I'm just going off of rumors of course, but I have heard very few rumors going against what I've heard. Granted of course, they are rumors, so everything has to be taken with salt, but this is one I'm apt to believe, just a bit. Of course, I will never fully believe it until Disney makes that announcement.

Last i heard from people in tommorowland it will be june 08. It will be down at least a yr and it will be completely gutted and tta will be down at the same time.

So, are you doubting that this will happen? Last I checked this is a news and rumors forum, so talking about rumors is what we are supposed to do here.

I most certainly am, I doubt that it will happen in 2008, and I doubt that when it does happen, the refurb will last anywhere near a year

A - It's pretty much common knowledge. Only variable is the timeframe and extent at this point.

Just recently had the fortune of being locked away in a closet for 30 hours with nothing but a DVD player and my Firefly set to keep me company.

Worked out for me

As you can see, Lee backed me up on this (he was one of the insiders I was talking about...which is a part that you so apparently thought wasn't important enough that you left it out of my quote) and you must have missed the part where I said I heard it from an imagineer on a podcast.

I can see if I would have just said I heard it on the internet, from people who aren't in the know...I never base my ideas of what will probably happen simply off internet rumors. And, you will also note that I never said I believed it 100%, just thought it was a rumor that has a very strong possiblity of happening. I usually agree with you on most everything, but on this one, I think it was kind of rude of you to use my words to make me look like a moron who didn't know what she was talking about. Like I go off baseless rumors or something. My opinions came from rumors stated from reputable sources.

It's not like I said Beastly Kingdome was going to happen.

I'm also going in Sept. and since it's the DBF first trip ever I really hope it doesn't go down before we get there. But if it does then atleast I have a reason to get him there in "09.

Here's what I said to qualify -

Remember my friend, its the internet where everyone has to be right!@ :ROFLOL: :brick: Besides, see the PML tag? Its carte blanche to try and provoke arguments with the intention of getting people kicked off the site.

The Space rehab has been rumored for about 2 years now. I'm just glad its gonna actually happen. I know some are yelling for a new coaster but it seemed very smooth the one time i rode it and then it got released manually during an e-stop. Probably the smoothest SM ride i've ever been on. :D

I can handle Space Mountain being down. But the TTA??? :brick: We must gather all our internet rumor-mongering-nessness and start petitions to STOP the TTA from being taken down while Space Mountain is down!!! Who's with me? Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

;)

I know people who work that attraction and i used to work that attraction and there has been a imangeers there and ppl surveying it a lot this past year. It is on the work order for june and they have decided it will be at least a yr or maybe longer. And a few weeks ago Bob Iger was there...
TTA down time is to refurb it maybe retheme it and the put it back through space once they start to put the new track back in since tta might go through differently.
Space is long over due for a rehab. It needs to be update so there arent as many 101s due to slow guests and quicker way to reset the ride than pushing trains:)

Not saying this has anything to do with the proposed Space refurb, but while there the second week of December there was a Disney employee (official Disney ID tag hanging around his neck) that had a clipboard & was taking random measurements in the plaza out in front of Space Mtn. This was the area in between Space Mtn., TTA Track, Tomorrowland Speedway & the old Skyway Bldg. I thought about asking him what he was measuring for, but decided against it since I figured I wouldn't get the truth anyway. :zipit: Only time will tell on this topic.

Well, the thing is, this is not a shot in the dark. There is a direct precedent. Disney has already done this in California. If you want to know what will happen to SM, look no further than Anaheim.

Obviously we don't know when the rehab will occur, but given the fairly dramatic changes made to the ride quality and the success of the rehab, it only stands to reason that it will be happening in Orlando. And when it does, it WILL take a while. SM in CA was down for quite a while...the ride is literally taken apart and put back together.

So I can assure you, when it does happen, it WILL take close to a year.

IMHO I do not care how long it takes as long as they do it right. Gut the building and put in a roller coaster that was as good as Space Mountain was when it opened in the 70's. If that take 2 years so be it.

If this does happen my DS will be disappointed, as he this year went on SM for the first time (we finally convinced him) and he loved it. I think next year (hopefully going in Dec) will be the last time for a couple of years.

At least if they do it, there is hopefully something nice to look forward to.
