Space Mountain discussion

The paint marks in Orlando were the cut points from 2008 for when they were going to remove and replace the 1975 track and supports with an identical new one. They're still there today.
Given the lead time required to buy a roller coaster, this also means a whole new track was probably ordered as well.

I agree with the one poster that said the Matterhorn is rough. Compared to space mt. it is very brutal. It actually makes space mt. seem tame. Either way, it would be nice to refurbish it again and just completely update it. It should be a modern retro technological coaster that is still classic but not dated.

Like the first poster, I adore space mountain the way it is. Granted, I do want it to be safe, but I probably wouldn't change much at all. It's my favorite ride in WDW and nothing reverts me back to being a child like Space does. Last year as a 29 year old woman, I rode 3x in a row and screamed like a child the whole time. I love that it's more "rough" than most things in MK.

I'm 100% with you here. I'm 32, and I have noticed in my more recent trips that Space Mountain is the ride that makes me smile from start to finish. Like I don't mean to do it, but I'm halfway through the ride and realize I'm smiling ear to ear and having the most fun ever.

Space Mountain used to be one the things I just had to ride every time we went to Disney World. Indeed, I rode it the last time I went, which was two years ago. However, I've moved it over to my I don't care if I ride it again unless it's renovated, or unless my stepson begs me to ride it with him. The reason why is that it's just too jerky and jarring for me, and I had a headache for the rest of the day after I rode it the last time. I'm only 35, so I'm not someone who has no business being on roller coasters, and normally I really enjoy them. However, unless they renovate it and smooth it out somewhat, I may not ride it much more again, if at all. There are plenty of other rides at Disney.

It's funny because I experienced almost the opposite of that the last time I was there. I think it's because I hadn't been on it in a long time, and in the meantime had been on the matterhorn plenty of times. The matterhorn definitely makes Space mt feel smooth as it is ridiculously rough. My brother did say Space felt rougher then usually but he only did the matterhorn once in his life. But I still get it though, a ride through space should be smooth. Hopefully one day they'll figure out a way to smooth it out but also keep it thrilling. One can hope.
