Southeast Airlines, a discount airline that made non-stop flights from Newburgh, NY to Sanford, FL, amongst others, has completely shut down. How nice for those of us who have tickets for a flight to WDW next month! Now I don't know how we'll get there. I guess we'll have to drive. How can an airline just up and quit?! :fork:

Wow, that's crazy. I knew they were hurting, but just to go *poof* like that.

(You had actually convinced your mom to fly?)

Wow, that is really amazing. So glad I never fly that airline anymore. But many people do. What I will really miss the Airline the series on A&E. All those people I have "gotten to know" from the show, out of a job! No a Merry Christmas (I was laid off a year ago last week!) But then again I had a baby and I am happy to stay home, not the same thing!

Then again never mind. I still am not sleeping well and thought it said South West, not east. I didn't even know there was a south east. Oh well. Now I feel dumb! :veryconfu :lookaroun

I really need this little baby of mine to start sleeping through the night! Don't mind me!

It may not be the last. We have USAirways and United potentially ready to fold, and Delta isn't doing well either. Travel is going to remain interesting for the immediate future.

We always fly a major airline now because we had trouble in the past with smaller ones. Never going out of business but threats of it soon before we left. We flew Sun Jet two times and it was the worst experience flying we have every had for both times. Major delays, canceled flights, really bad. I would rather pay a little more and be fairly certain I will have a flight that leaves on time or close to it.

Sorry you had this happen, it really stinks.

I've spent most of the day trying to re arrange flights for my inlaws...they were flying from Bradenton to Newburgh for Christmas. In the hour I spent on line the prices went up hundreds of dollars! My BIL made reservations on SEAL last night! They knew they were going out of businesss, but they let him book anyway. We will be driving down for Easter now because we can't afford any of the other flights.

I thought I read that management called in all the front-line employees last night, gave them their paychecks, and told them they were out of jobs. Maybe the reservations agent hadn't been told yet when your BIL called. (I'd like to think that's the case anyway.)

Hey all. We were able to get tickets on Independence Air out of Stewart. Shame, though, we had to extend out vacation by a day. Gee, how sad. ;) But now we have a 1.5hr layover in Washington-Dulles and we have to fly into Orlando instead of Sanford. :( But my mom didn't want to drive or go to Kennedy to fly Jet Blue. So at least we have tickets now, and we've sorted out the rental car ($70 more for an extra day and at Orlando instead of Sanford!) and the hotel (they claim they can't tack on an extra night at the WL with AP rate, so we had to play full price that night). My dad just now has to send a letter to his Discover card (apparently, airline disputes must be submitted in writing) so that we can get our money back.

Glad everything worked out for you. I like Orlando better than Sanford. Don't worry its an easy drive. An extra night at the WL? I'm so sorry for you...how will you ever recover?

Heard from my DH's youngest brother...he had 5 seats on SEAL for Easter...charged to American Express that he had already paid off. Gotta see how this one turns out.

I hate driving into the city or Newark to catch a plane, but lately we have flown Continental from Newark direct to Orlando, problem is its $$$. (but the directr flight is the best)

I think we should have the government step in... we have tons of airlines, but many are small and cannot compete and the larger ones are starting to struggle badely.... have the government find a way to stable the airline industry...

This is ad that they had to fold... Hopefully everyone effected will find another job and airline to use...

My dad already paid off Discover. So I don't know what's going to happen here, either. We haven't flown into Orlando since, like, 1993. I wanted to fly Jet Blue out of Kennedy, but my mom doesn't want to go to the city. So it's Independence Air with a frickin' layover.
