Incredibly frustrating to drop two points to a goal like that, thought Heskey had a good game, but Wright-Phillips was very poor after coming on.

Great game...I don't think I have ever been so sick with being nervous during the second half as ever before.

Couple of things...yep, Green let in a ball he should have stopped, but having watched a replay, Dempsy got Gerrard twisted around and it looks like Green got out of position as a result. Pretty even game, I thought. Altidore should have put it away late in the second half, but Green made a good save. Really, either side could have won 3-2, but each get a point in the end.

England really missed a left footer in the forward areas yesterday. Was crying out for someone like Adam Johnson (still don't understand why Capello didn't take him to SA) or Joe Cole.

That was by far our hardest game of the group, and looking at Algeria and Slovenia today - we should still be on course to top the group.

I think both England and the US get by Slovenia and Algeria...question is, who scores more to end up top of the table at the end of group play. Then again...Slovenia has a good defense and may just decide to bunker down and put all ten men behind the ball and try to draw both England and the US...in which case we have a mess on our hands.

Huge upset today, with Switzerland beating Spain with only about 1/3 the number of shots.

Spain had the best record of any team in World Cup qualifying (10-0). If they don't go through to the knockout phase, it will be a major disappointment.

They should still breeze through the group, whilst it would be a shame for the spectical if they went out I would be very pleased to have no chance of facing them! It looks like the games are opening up a bit more now after a few boring games, let's hope England can pick up a win tomorrow :).

So Group C resumes tomorrow.

It's jumping the gun a bit, but if England and America can both win out in group, then the top spot will come down to goal differential, which makes margin of victory almost as important as simply winning.

The difference between first and second could be big, because the second place team gets the winner of Group D in the round of 16...which will probably be Germany, who looked better than anyone in their first game.

Of course, if we go out and lay an egg against Slovenia tomorrow, I probably won't have to worry about Germany. :dazzle:

So now that we've drawn with Slovenia and Germany lost to Serbia, how do you think it's looking?

I'm still steamed over that goal getting pulled back...but just looking at it mathematically, it's good for us that Algeria has kept England off the board in the first half. If Algeria can earn a tie or a win, then we'll control our own fate in terms of getting out of the group. An England win makes the situation more tricky.

And obviously Group D is now in turmoil after the German loss. So it's possible that the second-place finisher might not get Germany after all!

Basically that whole post yesterday was hugely premature in every aspect.

Pulling for Algeria now!
