Sorcery in the Sky- How many versions?

I`d doubt it since all the infrastructure and launchers were added from scratch, in a very small timeframe and with a very specific show in mind.

Incidentally, SITS saw the worlds first use of an exterior digital stereo sound system on Hollywood Blvd.

Too cool! I'm really enthralled (and missing!) this show...:(

Steve, I remember that you posted vids a while back, before you switched the main page of the forums...Any idea where they went?

I want this show back. DHS should have a show on nights when F! is not performing.

Was Sorcerer Mickey's tower removed with the construction of Pixar Place?

Changing your tune, Mr. "Fantasmic is better"? :p

Yep...It's gone. :(

(they could easily make a new one. It was just some steel gritters.

I still think Fantasmic is better. Although SitS is close. A little bit more "WOW" factor like lighting would make it better.

Well, as you've read, it was scrapped together in a few months, and is 20 years old!

If it were rebuilt today...WOW! I'm sure ALL the tech has come a long way.

And it is much more unique and fitting for the park...IMHO.

True. Show techniques have come a long way. A little mire tech could have been used in later years of the show.

Thanks for all the info Steve and Martin!

Well, as we've seen, the EARLY 90's saw some enhancements.

Late 90's? Sign of the times!

Yes, a HUGE thank you to anyone posted. :)

I was surprised by how good the show was when I saw a video of it on Youtube. Its just so cool seeing fireworks to favourite movie tunes.

Just imagine how awesome the show could be with today's technology! Fire effects during Indiana Jones, lasers during Star Wars, new special lighting effects for Close Encounters, all sorts of things! They need to bring it back!

:lookaroun So...While we wait for Boo, I think I have a bit of an hypothesis on how the Mickey worked! After watching a few very shaky and blurry videos, I finally found one that shows the Theater JUST as the Mickey lights come on, and as he rises into place. It appears that he "stands", and MIGHT have been laying on his back, previous to his reveal. You don't see him go vertical because the lights are not on yet.

I THINK. Bet I'm wrong.

I really don't have nothing ground breaking to reveal other that how the balloon was inflated rather quickly. The balloon was deflated and completely covered until the second fan shot had completely fired. Once that was over the techs uncovered the balloon. When the cue was given to inflate, a huge pneumatic piston pushed the deflated balloon skyward as 4 huge blower fans filled the balloon as it rose. All of this took around 15-20 seconds. The piston inside of the balloon was as tall as the balloon. There is a picture of the tower earlier in the thread. You can see the blowers but the piston is obscured by foliage. Maybe Martin will dig something up that shows it a little better. The effect in the finger was a simple gerb. The holder was actually the tip of his finger. The holder was aluminum. To prevent it from getting tangled or twisted during inflation the tech pulled a rope attached to the holder to page it away from the main part of the balloon. A little unnoticed event during the show is during the first part of the show one of the architectural spikes on the top of the theater was slowly lowered so that when the inflatable Mickey was revealed there were no obstructions.
Also someone pointed out that my date was indeed wrong for the song Out There. It was added in late 95 or early 96 well in advance of the movies release.
