MGM is closing early on 6/25/05 for a convention buy-out.

At about 11:30pm, Disney-MGM Studios will show Sorcery in the Sky.

This will be the final performance of Sorcery in the Sky.

Does this mean a new show is coming?.....Only time will tell.

How can it be the final performance of Sorcery in the Sky when WDWmagic is reporting that it will be presented on July 4, followed by the special patriotic finale.

Sorcery in the Sky is the "old" MGM fireworks display. It takes place over the Chinese Theatre. Now it makes an appearance on major occassions.

I believe the 4th of July will be the new show......they used it on NYE.

I think it is call Lights, Action, Hollywood.....or something like that. It looked like the best of the NYE shows....I was at Epcot, and I liked what I saw at MGM better.

I was at MGM for NYE, and saw Lights, Camera, Fireworks! It was a really cool, and unique fireworks show for a Disney park. Fireworks shoot off from behind Grauman's Chinese Theater, and as an added feature, they shoot some fireworks off of the buidings on Hollywood Boulevard (this is a really surprising moment in the show). The music played during the show are all songs and themes from famous movies, but not just Disney movies. Rocky (Eye of the Tiger), Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. My favorite part (and probably the most surprosing part of the show) is when Bohemian Rhapsody started playing. I was like, "Am I at Disney or Universal?"

I think it would be cool for MGM to have a permanent nighttime show similar to this. Not necessarily fireworks above the Chinese Theater/Hat (Hollywood Boulevard is way too small to hold all those people, compared to Main Street at the MK) but some type of show that celebrates all different types of movies, not just Disney animated features. Don't get me wrong, I love Fantasmic, and I love the shows themed to Disney animated Classics, but I just think that having a different type of show at MGM would make it more unique.

At the time it premiered, I felt it had the best coordination of the booms and the music. I haven't seen it in years, so I really couldn't be sure now. But I have not been overwhelmed with Wishes.

Sorcery was really good, and I think a lot of it had to do with the "location." Behind the Chinese Theater and above in the sky was beautiful and oh so Hollywood. A true MGM fireworks show is really missed.

I am a little confused Sorcery starts at 11:30, but the park closes early like at 7:00 PM. So are you suggesting the only way to see this last showing would be from the parking lot? I have never seen it before, and I have never seen it offered, so I don't know how it is normally viewed. Can it be fully seen and appreciated from the parking lot if that is in fact the only place that it can be viewed from? Thanks for any and all help you can provide me.

Convention buy-out. Means it weas purchased by whoever set up the convention and if you're not part of the convention, sorry, it wasn't meant for you.

In short, this info is "behind the scenes" and not really meant for general consumption, but interesting to most of us fans nonetheless.

On 4th of July, they will show Sorcery in the Sky....however, the only resemblance it has to the original is the name. The New show (they started last year) is horrible. They use patriotic music from films and set fireworks to it. Some may say that the fireworks are the same, and that may be true. But the choreography is gone....the spectacular music is gone.
When it was still around, Sorcery was the best firework show (beating the original Illuminations & Fantasy in the Sky). Personally, I think this ties Wishes for second best firework show of all time (second to RoE). The new show is the worst firework show on the 4th (Fantasy is at least patriotic and RoE has the biggest finale ever).

It is nice to hear they will show the orginal on the 25th (even nicer for the fact that I will be at the Boardwalk that night....perhaps with enough luck I will at least be able to see the fireworks).

The original SITS was an awesome show - I agree, partly due to location, but having seen IllumiNations and FITS from some distance to see low level fireworks launched and detonated in the middle of the park was something else... as for the Sorcerers Apprentice segment with the golden tail comets (technical term  ) launching from the Theatre.... WOW!

There are some videos on Disney Central - Sorcery in the Sky 1990 by martin is a particularly good one :animwink:

Don't be surprised by Bohemian Rhapsody in anything Disney. Queen had signed a contract with Disney owned Hollywood Records a year before the release of their album Innenduo. It was after the release of it that Freddie Mercury died from AIDS complication. They (remaining members of Queen) had released one last new album and a whole lot of best of albums to honor their contract with Hollywood Records even though the company offer them to opt out of the contract after Freddie's death.

As a Queen fan, I would have loved to have how the fireworks played out during the song.
