According to witnesses, the new octopus figure is simply that, no motion. If that is the case I wish they hadn't bothered putting it in at all. I'm bothered that motionless figures in full view seem to be ok with management. Tarzan's Treehouse got a tentative pass because I assumed we were supposed to be walking through a journal, even though some things moved while others did not.

However, I cannot stand the Native Americans visible from Critter Country. Before the river was rerouted the chief was only visible from the train or watercraft. The scouts were logically hidden in the bushes and it made sense that they would remain still. Now they are all in plain view and still as statues, barring an occasional hand wave. I don't even want to touch on the cast of the Incredicoaster. All of these feel like they belong to inferior theme parks.

Ideally, they ought to have put the new octopus figure lower on the rock and colored it to blend in. The camouflage makes sense for the character and it would have been fun to try and spot him each visit. As it is it will look incongruent next to the animatronic seagulls.

You clearly put more thought into theme park design than TDA and WDI.

Regarding the subs, I try to get at least one ride in when I'm visiting. It's a unique experience and the close quarters don't really bother me. I'm glad the lagoon is up and running again.

I'm trying to remember the last time I went on the Submarines. It's been many years. I think it was around '08 a year after they got redone to Nemo, on a visit with my nephews who were 10-13-ish at the time. They are now both married and starting on their own children.

Subs seems like a ride you only go on with little kids. But I'm glad it's there for folks, especially families with children.

For me, the Submarines is really all about that classic Disneyland vignette; A giant, icy Swiss mountain plopped next to a tropical lagoon with Australian yellow submarines circling past talking fish. It's totally bonkers and yet it's somehow perfectly Disneyland. (And people were worried about Star Wars Land being around the corner from Critter Country?!?)
