Somehow the Submarines Will Return July 25th

According to witnesses, the new octopus figure is simply that, no motion. If that is the case I wish they hadn't bothered putting it in at all. I'm bothered that motionless figures in full view seem to be ok with management. Tarzan's Treehouse got a tentative pass because I assumed we were supposed to be walking through a journal, even though some things moved while others did not.

However, I cannot stand the Native Americans visible from Critter Country. Before the river was rerouted the chief was only visible from the train or watercraft. The scouts were logically hidden in the bushes and it made sense that they would remain still. Now they are all in plain view and still as statues, barring an occasional hand wave. I don't even want to touch on the cast of the Incredicoaster. All of these feel like they belong to inferior theme parks.

Ideally, they ought to have put the new octopus figure lower on the rock and colored it to blend in. The camouflage makes sense for the character and it would have been fun to try and spot him each visit. As it is it will look incongruent next to the animatronic seagulls.

To be fair, any reason is a good reason to go to Monterey and the aquarium.
Even Mr. Spock enjoyed it multiple times.

Not that I would put it past Disney to be cheap, static figure out like that, but I suspect if it were an animatronic, it's reasonable to think it would not have motion immediately. If y'all recall the reopening of Autopia with the Honda robot, it was believed they were static figures until a few days after when they were finally turned on. Time will tell.

I'm mostly just curious to know why they're wasting any money adding a character from a movie that came out six years ago and is not particularly fondly remembered.

Anyway, I'm happy to see the lagoon will be open even if the subs are closed when I go this weekend.

I would love to be wrong of course, but those who have told me about the figure were unable to spot any points of articulation. I'm with you when it comes to adding things from Finding Dory. It seems awfully late to do so, but I suppose it's an inexpensive way for them to give the impression that the ride is being upgraded. After all, the promotional video talked about all of the kelp and props in the lagoon as if they were something new and not as if a year in the sun necessitated the replacement of the originals.

Hank made that movie to me! I’ve seen a good amount of Hank merchandise around the parks so I figured he was popular enough.

Who would have thought the only characters to get AA’s in Toy Story land would be Mr. Potato Head and Wheezy.

The statue is definitely a statue, and that is the one thing that will bug me, especially across from AA seagulls.
One thing that would cushion the blow for me is if they figured out a way to projection map onto Hank at night in order to replicate his camouflage. Surely it'd be much easier than when they attempted to projection map onto the Columbia for Fantasmic 2.0.

If they had just had him pressed against the rock (like hiding from the seagulls), with moving eyes… I’d be happy. 😂

Despite my own views that the Hank figure is unnecessary and dumb, when I was at the park a father excitedly pointed out the statue to his daughter so I must confess it’s a good addition.

So how many meetings between imagineers and Pixar animators did it take to order the statue of Hank? The statue that was probably made by a 3rd party who could have made the exact same thing without any input from imagineering and Pixar. Lol.

I bet they had to go up to Monterey for a “research” trip as well!

There's not a Four Seasons or a Ritz in Monterey, but The Inn At Spanish Bay is known to be excellent.

I'm sure the WDI accounting team had to process a few receipts from that hotel in order to get the Sub ride reopened.

Well they are back, already a bunch of videos online. Cool beans, though I still want that area completely redeveloped
