My GF goes to a monthly meeting of a local business women's group - networking, sharing ideas support etc. They put her up for the Welsh Woman of the Year competition. It has a number of categories and she was entered to the Best Return to Work category - for such instances as returning to work after raising kids.
The best three in each category make it to the finals, which will be televised and each entrant will have a TV crew do a spot on their day to day life. The winners of each category go forward to the main Welsh Woman of the Year Prize.
Well - she got word that she is in the final three of her category. A big black tie event I hope I can get a ticket.
Her story is one of recovering from life saving surgery five years ago and the stroke she suffered during the procedure, her now ex-husband throwing her out after the operation with nothing but the car she drove away in and learning to live with pulmonary hypertension, which curtails one's endurance.
In May last year she set up her own Florist shop, but it's been a rough year for trade and she was just at the point of having to close the shop when someone retiring from their established shop in another area of the Rhondda has asked if she wants to rent this shop from her. It's in a much better location and should keep her dream job alive.
The boost she has got with the thought that she won't have to get a regular job and the extra publicity the awards will give along with the thought that she can give hope for others in a similar boat is making this a really happy time
