Not necessarily. Could just mean that someone decided what was behind the planters at this point was less ugly than the planters.
Anyone know if the planters were removed overnight or during the operating day?

That would be for it to open. The people who want it to fail clearly don't think of the long term consequences of this attraction failing. If this is a huge hit, TDO will be more onboard with building new attractions. If this is a failure, Id wager you'd probably see more screens, themed bathrooms, DVC's, and restaurants.
Not necessarily. Look at California Adventure - when the park disappointed on opening, they spent the better part of a decade making additions in an effort to get it up to par. When little piecemeal developments didn't seem to be cutting it, they broke out the big guns and went for the $1Billion overhaul, bringing in Cars Land and Buena Vista Street. Those were huge hits, and don't seem to have lit any fires to pursue further development in the parks. Granted, DCA was in a much different position than the Magic Kingdom (not to mention the difference of situation between the DL and WDW resorts).

That said, I'm certainly pulling for Seven Dwarfs to be the kind of attraction that wins guests over - it's rare that a contemporary attraction follows the conceptual suit of the "experience ride" vs. the "book report" or "linear story" approach, and I'd love to see the public respond positively to that. As much as I would like to believe that this represents a shift in Imagineering design mindset, I do get the impression that this is a "one-off" with regards to being experience driven rather than story driven. We may very well still see more screens, bathrooms and DVC's, whether this ride is a hit or not.

Most of the cast are just now starting their training. Cast out front are saying that it definitely won't be this week or next week and are estimating the end of May probably for the 24 hour event.

Planters were removed because higher ups "didn't like the look" of plant walls for some reason. The FP+ entrance didn't even have touchpoints installed yet today. There also might be a possibility of a single rider line to the left of the Fastpass entrance. There isn't a sign for it, so at this point it is speculation.
