Soarin

Just passing on some of the chatter. Most people I know are busy watching Avengers movies, so it's not from the scene, but are people fairly close to the situation. Take that with however much of a grain of salt you like. It definitely seems safety related, though. That much seems solid from the chatter going on.

Maybe they are going to screen the avengers tomorrow on the soarin screen :D

How epic would that be...that would probably be more :hurl: than mission space :)

Yes. OSHA protects employees - hence "Occupational Safety and Health Administration/Act". I'm guessing the OSHA comment was hearsay or someone jumping to conclusions. People like to throw around OSHA whenever anything breaks.

Unless it hurts a worker, or poses a threat to a worker, OSHA should have no jurisdiction.

If the seatbelts don’t work properly a guest could fall out of his seat and a worker on the ground could be crushed by the guest. :wave:

Has to be a safety issue, strange that the ride has been up for 7 years and they find something now. If they're changing the belts, which doesn't sound THAT far fetch considering the low-tech seat belt arrangement they had (any kid could have got out easily if they wanted to), they will be going to a 3 piece locking belt. Only speculation from a guy stuck in Canada :ROFLOL:

:lol: You sound like you work for OSHA.

I'll have to look under 1910 for "Crushed by Falling People" to see what the penalty is.

Wanted others to say some details before I could say anything, just in case...

BUT....

Yes, it was concerning seatbelts (even I don't know the specifics);
Yes, OSHA is involved;
Yes, both coasts have both versions of their own attractions closed;
Yes, this was for the whole day (started around 10:30am or so);
Yes, ALL of FW Maintenance was on it like crazy to figure out what in tarnation happened;
and Yes, both Soarin's are closing indefinitely.

Since this is OSHA we're talking about, timing of reopening is ASAP but is obviously liable to dozens of safety inspections (aka no timetable whatsoever yet, maybe).

It was a safety issue. They found that two guests had gotten out of there seats somehow bfore the ride started and were standing in the corner while the ride was in motion. No one was hurt but the stunt prompted an immediate shut down of both versions to re-write the OG's for safety so it cannot happen again. No time frame as to when it will be open.

Thanks for the info Raven!

Hopefully the issue can be resolved quickly and with little impact to the experience or the operation in a way that slows things down. Not that I don't think safety is of utmost importance, but I would hate to see it cause longer turnover of the ride.

On the issue of safety though, I've often wondered what would happen if a guest came out of their seat either voluntarily or on accident while the film is going. It doesn't appear that they are actively monitoring guests while they are in the air.

It was a guest issue, not Disney's fault. And they take safety VERY seriously. Once the new proceedures are written they will still need to train all cast members involved. This could be days because all cast members don't work every day. In short, stay seated please.

I was wondering when you'd chime in! Thanks for the legit input.

They fall and die.

So, it sounds like it was a "stupid guest trick".

Indeed!

Unless they were very small guests, they HAD to have climbed up out of the belt, rather than sliding down through it. If it WAS the latter, perhaps they should have everyone use those crotch straps that they make kids use.
