Soarin: Is It Really That Great?

It's one of my favorites, despite the huge wait. I remember the first time I went on it I was absolutely blown away and after waiting almost 2 hours I absolutely thought it was worth it! Although now I will not ride unless FP, due to making my family wait for me ;)

I'm not a fan. I find it a bit boring and silly to fly over CA when it's in FL. Florida could make a nice fly over video. An international video would be awesome, esp considering WS is right around the corner. My kids like it, though, but we only do it with FPs
I wish I could agree with you on that. I love Florida when the land is eye level, but from above we would see a lake, a swamp, another lake, another swamp, a beach, I-95, another swamp, a live oak with moss, endless gift shops, another swamp, golf course, orange grove(s), and WDW. OK, I'll give you the Florida Keys!

California lends itself to a much broader range of things to see and much of it is or can be other places in the states. Deserts, mountains, cities, rocky coastlines, sandy coastlines, movie stars, black gold, texas tea (oops, sorry got off on an old memory there). Anyway, from above, I don't see where it would be all that interesting.

They don't shoo anybody out of the park, but they check your credentials when you get on a ride.

i disagree. Florida has plenty of beauty to see from a very low flyover. You just have know where to go and be willing to leave 95. Theres plenty of historic beauty, farmland, yes orange groves, the gulf coast, keys, and east coast. There's historic St. Augustine, lighthouses, NASA, etc. Most what you listed for CA isnt even in the video and a few you mentioned for Fl is in the video for CA. Fl may not be CA but it certainly has its own beauty and is more than just swamps and lakes, i promise

Someone made a "Soarin' Over Florida" video and posted it on YouTube. While it was nice, for the most part, it wasn't very interesting. Some of the clips looked the same. I'd be interested in seeing another attempt.

Has potential.

All those Space Shuttle scenes, though. :(

Ok, I understand that who ever did that video was limited to how low and close they could fly (which is a big draw to CA's Soarin'. It's how close and the swoops that the film does), it definitely could have been better. lol. I had to chuckle a bit at Big John being in there. The JFK hasn't sailed into Mayport in YEARS. That carrier is long gone. They could go over the fort in St Aug. There could be WAY better beach shots and wait until the orange groves are in full bloom and covered in oranges. Of course, low flies over WDW and maybe a bit of US/IOA.

It wouldn't have to be fly over Florida, it could be fly over the east coast. From Niagra Falls, to the Finger lakes, Phillidelphia, The Chesapeake Bay, Etc.

Also, why not make several different videos like some through the Grand Canyon or other areas. Like the Star Tours ride, you don't know what you get until it starts.

I told a friend the same idea. If you're moving to digital projectors, changing out the show would be much easier.

Since it's "Disney World" I would further suggest it'd be called "Soarin over the World." Not only a cool play on words, but the attraction could have 10 or more versions with clips from all over the world, appealing to more than just Americans. Imagine India, China, Japan, etc?

As I'm typing this, I'm like, wait!! They ARE doing this! I promise you, I've had this idea for years!

I'm pretty sure that the person who edited together this video didn't shoot any of the footage at all.
It's just cobbled together from whatever aerial footage he could find of Florida to prove that the concept could work.

Nice thought, but, it's a big world and a short film. You'd get dizzy watching the scenes change. It would be like a 8 minute experience in subliminal messaging.

Not worth the wait unless you're using FP+. The audio is lacking, the video is grainy and it's been the same video since day 1.

On my last trip to Disney World, I went on Soarin for the first time. I really wasn't all that impressed. I mean, it's ok, but it's no more than a once per trip kind of thing. I know a lot of people enjoy it, but I wasn't a huge fan. The finale is great, but other than that, I really don't get the hype. And the wait time for it is always around an hour and a half. I just don't get it. What is your opinion on Soarin? Is it really worth a 90 minute wait? And if you're a Soarin fan, don't hate on me. Just giving an opinion.:)

No, its not worth more than a 10 minute way in my opinion.

I think it would be great with international footage. Fly over a popular scenic area of India, then Russia, the greens of Ireland, the pyramids of Africa, London Bridge, etc.

I just love soarin, my brother has multiple disabilities and can't walk or talk. During our last visit I heard people requesting the top row as they did not want to see other peoples feet. It may sound silly but thinking of my little bros feet next to everybody elses just makes me tear up. His face is amazing as we fly over the ocean. Love you soarin!

We waited 2 and a half hours.......
I could have been doing much more interesting stuff than that!
But I like the music and the experience. We waited that long the first time we went on it. The second time we got smart and got a FP.

Oh and the wait time only said 90 minutes when we joined. Lies! All lies!

Massively overrated.
It's like an version 2 of the 360^ Cinemas which were popular in local theme parks in the 80's.

Personally I'm not bothered about the California theming in WDW, but it could be so much better if there were multiple versions. I can't see why they could not have 5-6 different versions featuring different parts of the US (or wider even).

The theming is wafer thin and incredibly cheesy. Though I do like the artifacts in the queue at DCA i.e. those charting the progress of flight.

I enjoyed it, but perhaps your prolonged wait clouded your opinion. Some people actually clapped at the end of the ride, though I wasn't that enthusiastic about it. I would certainly ride again but at no more than a half hour standby.

Don't get that clapping, but certainly I do find (and please no one take offense to this) that Americans really do like clapping......for anything!
