Rode Velocicoaster yesterday:
I hate that ride so much I’m never riding it again. A lap bar is not enough to feel safe when you hit speeds of 70 mph, go upside down multiple times and various crazy hills. The amount of times the lapbar was rise as I rose was bit too much, would’ve been a better experience with a harness/shoulder bar. I don’t know bout y’all but I usually go to the parks for a good time , and I was crying at the end because I was so scared of falling out and dieing or something. I’d say it’s the most extreme coaster in Florida or at least for me. Second being Manta and after that I’m okay with most rollercoasters. Still say you should try Velocicoaster for yourself but yea if this was Roller Coaster Tycoon it be ruled as very extreme
I love that this very description makes me as a coaster fan even more excited for it haha. One of the big issues for riding coasters for me now as a BIG MAN is getting stapled by the restraints. I always try to get as much breathing room between my body and the restraints as I can, so this description sounds like bliss.
I'm with Tiki on this one. Speaking as the other coaster enthusiast in this community (possibly including
@spacemt354), this honestly looks like the best overall ride in Orlando. It's obviously designed for the enthusiast niche, which seems a wise decision since that seems to be Orlando's major weak spot. IOA maybe errs by not having much else to act as an intensity transition to prepare GP (general public) guests for Velocicoaster, since sadly it caught
@tcool123 off guard. Sounds like it's doing exactly what it was designed to do, however! The enthusiast community is agog!
You'd be suprised how many coasters don't have shoulder restraints even when there are loops. For example, Knotts has Hangtime which has several loops but only a lap bar. It really doesn't support the upper half of the body. It's very annoying.
I hate OTSR (over the shoulder restraints). With unique exceptions like B&M inverts, they're never needed for safety. They can be extremely uncomfortable as well - especially on a snappy-looking ride like Velocicoaster - when your head bangs against both sides and you emerge with a wretched headache. I far prefer the freedom of a lap bar with ZERO holding the upper torso. You shouldn't even hang on. Just raise your arms in the air, surrender to what the coaster wants to do (especially if it's an RMC), and in my experience you'll have a far more pleasant ride.
I’m sure
@D Hulk would love it, then.
I would! Informally, the POVs would place it as my #4 coaster overall and #1 in pure steel. (So behind Steel Vengeance, Voyage and El Toro, and above Maverick and Skyrush. My biggest U.S. blindspots are Intimidator 305, Fury 325, and similar.)
@D Hulk is probably booking his flight right now.
You joke, but...
Considering a road trip, actually. I wanna do it proper and pick up some Six Flags & SeaWorld annual passes along the way, do their Texas parks, and get the full Busch Tampa experience as well. (Iron Gwazi will unseat Velocicoaster.)
Yeah, this is just the one thing that finally convinces him to take a trip to Florida.
It is.
