So, You Want to be an Imagineer Season 18 HUB THREAD

Kirby's SuperStar Lanes

It's funny how everytime there's a Nintendo project I preface by saying I didn't and don't play these video games (sans Mario Kart) so if I'm reviewing I start with that asterisk, but ironically now there have been so many Nintendo challenges over the years since Universal's announcement that I feel like I kinda know it better.

I'll start out by saying the teamwork shines through here. This was a basic, albeit, off the beaten path project - that if there wasn't a solid foundation of teamwork, could have been a slapped together piece just to submit on time. Instead, with the calm and non-overbearing project manager style of Jokers, as well as the encouraging work environment set up by Propsero over the last few rounds leading into this one, you took in my mind one of the more basic prompts this season, and transformed it into a memorable project. And for me that stems from the detail and presentation.

The Wix site was an excellent choice to add some spark. Right off the bat the music and colorful design sets the reader up in the Kirby world. I also appreciate the little details of including actual hyperlinks in the ads to the other projects of the season. A detail that has nothing to do with this project but shows the passion of folks involved here for the season as a whole. A very good sign.

As for the project itself, I might have missed it, but where exactly is this bowling alley? I re-read the prompt and it didn't say you had to specify, but I'd just be curious. I would assume somewhere in a Universal CityWalk though with this type of detail, and not a northeastern US suburb. The design of the alley is very well managed. Everything is depicted well, really not much to add or critique in that department; and given it was a smaller prompt I don't want to harp on it too much. The restaurant menu was a nice touch as well. Finally, the videos though I found to be very innovative. From the Minecraft, to custom Broadway-style songs, to these custom videos, and even going back to Basketbuddy's virtual Batman elevator, this season has been an incredible display of new presentation techniques that deserves all the recognition in the world.

Creativity: 9/10 - plenty of options but you chose one I think would be a hit with kids and kids at heart.
Realism: 8/10 - Mostly realistic if in CityWalk on a Universal budget
Detail: 8.5/10 - This had an adequate amount detail for the project style
Presentation: 9.5/10 - Website, videos, and little ads/gags bumped this up.
Teamwork: 10/10 - Everyone contributed in various ways.

Team Prospero - Kirby's SuperStar Lanes
  • I am loving this presentation. It’s so fun and colorful
  • Kirby was a great choice as it has so much material to work with
  • Exterior was nice. It felt very whimsical
  • The whole bowling experience was very fun. I loved all the thought that went into making it Kirby.
  • Although, I think a new element of some type should’ve been added just to give it that extra push of being new and not like regular bowling places.
  • The arcade was very cool. It was nice to see a new and more modern game that isn't usually found in regular arcades.
  • Chef Kawasaki’s Hot Pot was very nice. Not much to say about it
  • Was there a location to this bowling alley or did I miss it?
  • Overall it was a very nice project. I just think it needed a little more to put it at the top
Creativity: 9/10
Realism: 8/10
Detail: 9/10
Presentation: 10/10
Group Work: 10/10

Podcast happening tonight at 10PM Eastern. I managed to schedule all of the final six to come on with the exception of @DashHaber, so it should be an incredibly eventful results show one way or another.

I will sadly not be present on the stream to roast the Top 6 but just keep an eye out...

EDIT: Also I was super busy today but my feedback will be in tomorrow

It's with a very heavy heart that after BAR NONE the most intense hour I've ever had as the host of the game, that we bid goodbye to @NigelChanning09. With that out of the way, let's get to another one of my most anticipated projects of the season.

Semi Finals: The Best Picture Show
bps.png

For this project, Team Prospero must pick one Best Picture nominee or winner to design an E-Ticket attraction around. I want to stress that picking something outside the box will be PIVOTAL this round. While all of Space, the jury, and TMNT will have a hand in picking members of the final three based on the results of this project, I can safely say that IP choice is not to be taken lightly and I'll definitely be basing at least some of my vote on if the IP chosen was a good one or not. With that being said there's some films on the list that are simply off-limits for the "too easy" factor. These movies include...

-The Lord of the Rings trilogy
-District 9
-Avatar
-Up
-Inception
-Toy Story 3
-Mad Max: Fury Road
-Black Panther
-Joker

As previously stated, Space, TMNT, and the jury will each be hand-picking ONE member of the final five to advance to the final three. The stakes have never been higher. DO NOT be one of the two people not chosen to advance to the last round. Good luck team, this project is due Tuesday, August 18th at 11:59PM Eastern.
