Monaco Bay Resort and Spa
shA.jpg

Step into a coastal, seaside oasis in Universal's Monaco Bay Resort and Spa - exclusively at the Universal Australia Resort. The moment you turn off of Resorts Drive and into the Drop Off overhang of the resort, you are immediately immersed in the scenic, bay-side beauty - with bright colors and meticulously crafted details along the facade of the main lobby. As you walk into the 3 story lobby, you will find the ornate architecture of a time long ago - as you step into the oval lobby and gaze up at the stain glass domed rooftop with artistic drawings scattered around it, giving off a quaint Victorian feel. A large chandelier hangs from the central point of the lobby - glistening with over 64 different light structures all fawning from the golden center. Comfortable chairs and couches encircle the chandelier, with a foliage arrangement in a central hub at the exact center of the lobby. Guests can sit around, check-in at the desk to the left of the entrance, or visit the concierge where you can book tickets, make dining reservations, among a variety of other amenities exclusive to Monaco Bay. Around the lobby are several areas of interest, in particular various quick service pastry shop and tea shops, as well as a grand staircase that takes you up to the upper balconies. Gazing into the main atrium from the upper levels, you can see in detail the unmistakably gorgeous designs on the railings and beams, and you can take the hallways off of the 2nd floor towards any of the guest wings as well.

Wow! As always, great hotels.

You certainly have a knack and a passion for hotel design. Might I commission you to take the serious first crack at the Hogwarts Resort when you get a chance?

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate it:)

Surprisingly...the thing I enjoy the most in armchair projects is hotels:D I don't know what it is...I guess because I can research and tailor the write-ups to try and sound like actual hotels in theme park resorts. Also why the Progress City project from @Disney Dad 3000 's Great Movie Ride Comp was my favorite project of the season! I could go more in depth on these, but since I've done 3 in the last 3 days counting Isla Nublar...once I get to the pool descriptions I'm like...erm...it's a pool:hilarious:

Of course I can take a look at Hogwarts if you'd like! - I drew up a rough idea back in June which we can edit as we go!

Neat!

That's funny, hotels are my least favorite thing to do, partly because growing up with Disneyland under an hour away staying in hotels has never been a part of my park experience (until this month, actually). My favorite thing to write in @Disney Dad 3000's game was Dream Mountain, because I love the pure simplicity of a good ride!

Looks like you've got a good start there on Hogwarts! Maybe later (mañana) I'll work out what the hotel needs to do as far as UniSEA is concerned altogether. Let's also devise the arrival narrative via secret park entrance and Hogwarts Express and boats to the Hogwarts cliffs, then how checking works with like the Sorting Hat and everything.

Because of how it needs to fit into a theme park's center (which has never been done before), and because of sightlines, this'll be a rather complex hotel to design I fear.

Interesting - it'll definitely be complex and take some brainstorming, but I'm confident we will make it work! I'm up for the challenge haha.
Having a list of what will go in the hotel, or at least some rough ideas will be a good start!

I was chatting with @TheOriginalTiki a few days ago about the possibility of when this is all over, he could perhaps do some recap/review podcasts on the project to wrap it all up. And given the sheer amount of content this project has - I'd assume it would be broken up into different parts - which is why right now I'm focused on trying to get the opening day lineup of the resort up and running, including details on UniMK and the CityWalk, that way it has enough content for 3 podcasts or so. Then as those are going on we can continue on UniSEA and Hogwarts, as well as I'd really like to do some more concept art for Suess Landing and go more in depth on what is available...which could lead to another 2-3 podcasts - creating a whole 'Uniting Universal' series to conclude the project!

Oh wow, that would be awesome if Tiki could do that. Then let's have Imagineerland do another layout illustration ;).

It makes total sense to fine tune UniMK first, and the resort. You've been spearheading those elements nicely. Let me know if there's anything in UniMK I can help with, beyond general input. I like what I've seen of it so far. Especially looking forward to how you tackle the IT flume!

Ha that would be awesome if he could!

Actually since you've read IT (I've only seen the film and the 1990 film) maybe you could list some fun novel elements to include that you enjoyed? As well as any Sunny reference you want in Paddy's:joyfull:

Hmm. I'll think on that one. There is a LOT of stuff in IT to play with, though the ride ought to be a film adaptation primarily (as is The Shining). That input can wait until your first draft is complete. :D

Sounds good! Will hopefully be sometime tomorrow.

Right now on my docket, I plan on finishing The Shining (which for some reason I keep forgetting to do, so I'll do that first tomorrow)

Then IT, and the rest of American Mystery -- then off to Production Plaza!

I made a tentative outline for myself this week in terms of what I plan on finishing.
- Tuesday: Hop sketch, Suess Landing additions/overview of rides
- Wednesday: Details on New York area for UniMK, Shining additions/art
- Thursday: Details for American Mystery, Jurassic World concept art/overview
- Friday: Details on Jurassic World, Mediterranean Resorts overviews
- Saturday: Completion of Mediterranean Resorts
- Sunday: Recap
Morning everyone - hey I actually kept pretty close to this:p:D I'm even surprised lol

you should get this guy then

I should also tell you that I don't hate you or the idea of the attraction itself but it's how redundant it would be to use in Universal since the Nickelodeon license expired nearly a decade ago. And also how Universal got the license use Nintendo in their parks and they bought Dreamworks Animation.
