So...why exactly was the prism sculpture removed from Epcot's entrance fountain?

Even the people who like Leave a Legacy will concede that the two things it reminds people of are tombstones and war memorials (specifically, the Vietnam Memorial). Both of these things evoke feelings of sadness and dread; the exact opposite of the feeling you want people to feel as they are walking into your "Hope for the Future" amusement park. Leave a Legacy makes as little sense in Future World as they do in Frontierland or Fantasyland.

Is the symbol still used. I didn't really notice it when we were there

You literally stand right on the largest logo right behind the Fountain of Nations...

I'm almost tempted to create a spoof of this where the man is standing at Leave A Legacy, and the reflections back are Dreamfinder, SMRT-1, Buzzy, and the class of scuba kids from Horizons.

But that would be disrespectful to both Vietnam veterans and the artist who created the original piece.

Heck they Did it with Vader...

The prism logo is a leftover remnant from when all of the Future World pavilions had their own logo (and all the World Showcase pavilions had their own font) that fit together with the other logos and made Future World as a whole appear to have been designed cohesively and with forethought by people who cared.

Thanks for posting that interesting chart! I can easily identify some of the pavilion logos, but not all. Just wondering: does the chart have some sort of explanation key that would list the corresponding pavilion names?

Wow, very impressive! Thank you very much. There are so many people on these forums with a wealth of knowledge, and so willing to share with others.

I really wish they would re-use those old logos. They just "feel" like EPCOT to me.

I've always said that the two easiest fixes TDO could implement that would restore a lot of goodwill regarding EPCOT Center would be to bring back all of these logos and to restore the original (for lack of a better phrase) theme songs for each pavilion. It made Future World feel like cohesive (and thought-out) land, instead of a bunch of buildings just thrown together without any planning.

As I pointed out in the other thread devoted to complaining about LaL- there was a recent post from a woman who had been to Epcot 4 times, and never even noticed that LaL was there.

And what does the Lucite column (actual thread topic) supposed to remind us of, besides the 80s that is? It reminds me of something from Fairvilla adult novelties.

Pure speculation, but I've always thought the sculpture was meant to evoke a feeling of "optimism" by subconsciously reminding people of Superman's Fortress of Solitude and, more specifically, the columns of crystal used to communicate with his father.

Christopher Reeve's Superman embodied perfection and hope and optimism to the typical person in 1982.

Do you actually think ANYONE else looked at your photo and was impressed with your....well I do't even know what, but ....ok I just don't get the appeal.
You know, if all the Uni/IOA fans are as much of a sweetheart as you, I can't think of any reason why I would even consider going there. Just let me ask, other than UNI, who I'm sure pays you, is there anything on the planet that meets your approval or at least a good word? Seriously!
