So What's The Mysterious "Third IP" Coming to DHS?

As amazing as Shanghai pirates looks and i'm sure it would be very popular, i'm not sure sure i'd really want two pirates boat rides in WDW, though I could see it happening. I get they're two different parks but for me to embrace it they would really need to make distinctions between MK (originally DL) version inspiring the movie and this version being more about the ip itself. Also are they're any new pirates movies being talked about for synergy?

Since there isn't going to be any info for a long time i'm going to narrow it down based on what has been said in order of likeliness

A) It's a non-Disney IP (Lord of the Rings, Ninja Turtles, etc.)
B) It's based on an IP already at use in another park (i.e. Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters inc, etc.)
C) It's Indiana Jones

Martin has said he can't say much and "we would understand" once it's announced. To me that rules out B and C because I don't see why any of that would be a big secret.

Even if it's expected, that doesn't mean Disney is going around telling everyone about it. It's not like Martin's source is just guessing...

This is what I was thinking as well. That Disney is in talks to acquire theme park rights to another IP but it hasn't been finalized yet.

I am hoping that it's not LOTR though. That IP deserves so much more than a single theme park attraction at DHS. The theming possibilities would be amazing. I would also wonder if they would have to get approval from the Tolkien estate, and they seem to be finicky about portrayals.

Anyone who has inside info on this attraction does it look like a good attraction to you? Usually we can tell a lot by that. Certainly D23 will be interesting unless of course it's announced before

Possibly but I'd expect something sooner. It's not scheduled that far away.

As it stands there's scant public details about the SWL attractions so they've plenty to talk about before anything else.

the last time something like this happened the poster did a Haiku and the had a fight with management here and was NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN.. but he did his rumor as the HAIKU ... and the chaos here was unbelievable.

I'm sure most will enjoy it. I think it's a good pick, but that's just me. I also thought Toy Story Land looked fine for what it was until its budget was gutted. Then again, I was confident we would see more than those two lands in DHS.

If this what were to come about, I'd love to see them remove all the movie stuff from the regular POTC in MK. I think you could justify the two rides being similar if one were "classic" Pirates and one were the movie concepts.

That said, wouldn't a really cool option for DHS (to merge ideas) be an Indiana Jones rides using the basic ride mechanics of Shanghai POTC -- e.g. something like "Indiana Jones and the Treasure of Atlantis" where you are in a boat that goes underwater to the lost city. You could have sea monsters and the like involved. I think that would be a great way to bring the Shanghai Pirates experience to the US without being a direct clone as well as bring a bigger presence of Indy to Florida without cloning other concepts from other parks.

They are big secrets because there are currently no rumors about those attractions being built at WDW (and in the case of Indy there haven't been in many years). Bob Iger has begun talking up the Indiana Jones franchise as the next IP Disney is going to give a big push to and that naturally suggests a greater theme park presence. Indiana Jones getting a new attraction/miniland to coincide around the time the franchise roars back to life is something everyone would "understand" when it happens since it we just saw that with Star Wars. Same thing with the Shanghai Pirates ride being ported over or an IP from another park getting a big presence at the Studio park it would certainly cause a lot of discussion if there are now suddenly 2 Pirates of the Caribbean rides at Walt Disney World or if they announce a Frozen land for the Studios. Like I said, I think what Martin meant by "we would understand" is that its going to tie into a popular film franchise that is either getting sequels around that time or an existing non-Disney IP that is beloved and would attract a lot of attention.

Was Mousemerf BS'ing about that mountain attraction for Epcot or was that something that was about to be greenlit at the time? I've always wondered

I think that would be an amazing attraction. Indy should have a much bigger parks presence than an old and outdated stunt show. Same for Star Wars when they just had Star Tours. A mini land with an updated stunt show, E-ticket Shanghai Pirates ride system for IJ Atlantis, and maybe (now I'm being wishful) a QS or sit down restaurant would be outstanding and help round out the park and only enhance the adventure theme.

Will this new attraction require the closing of even more stuff at DHS?

Wait I got it,

We almost forgot that Lucas films also did

Once Upon a time
Labyrinth
American Grafitti

And Willow

Did George Lucas keep the rights and just have different studios be distribute the film? If he did then wouldnt they be part of Disney now?

Synergy!! Lucas studio land with Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the Labyrinth. ;-)

Fits well with the Jim Henson muppets too

Hmmm.... good point. Would they need to acquire theme park rights from the estate of PL Travers for Mary Poppins? I know the characters appear in the parks as well as on GMR, but they may only have those specific rights and might need additional permission for a dedicated ride. I'm skeptical, but maybe that would be possibly true and certainly Mary Poppins would lend itself to a large scale family E-ticket.
I've always said that Mary Poppins would be a great replacement for the Beauty and The Beast musical. I believe it would be a nice family attraction for kids, parents and grandparents. Love the songs from that movie. I believe Walt had theme park rights as part the deal with PL Travers. Also, they have another Mary Poppins movie in the works.
