So Tempted

We had a major problem. A sewage pipe broke under our townhouse complex (luckily we didn't get any of the backup). In order to fix the pipe our water had to be turn off. We have been staying in a hotel and found out yesterday that it make take a month to fix. I am not happy about the thought of spending Christmas with my boys (almost 4 & 9months) in a hotel. We are now very tempted to go to WDW in order to regain some family sanity. We would be very strapped for cash, but the temptation is there. Has anyone else had something happen to them and say screw it let's go to WDW?

We planned our trip for next weekend just two weeks ago. We didnt feel in the Christmas spirit so we felt like the best place to get in that spirit is Disney World!

Long long ago we used to stay off property at like a Radisson or something (this was when there were only a couple Disney hotels) and the pipes broke at the Radisson so we were frantically trying to find another hotel cuz crap was running all over the place, literally...so we ended up at the Contemporary for our first Disney hotel experience. Since then we've never stayed anywhere else but at a Disney hotel!

OMG, Colleen! Do it!! We did something similar when I was in college.... my maternal grandfather died unexpectedly a month before Thanksgiving, so we took off (with my grandmother) for a cruise and a few days in the Keys.

I can't think of a better place than WDW to be for Chrismtas, especially if otherwise you would be in a hotel here. Plus, it's freezing here right now! (not that you don't know that, duh)
*shivers*

Let me know if you book it! We are there Dec. 19-27. :xmas:

Yeah! Like every trip we take! The last two years we have been hit with major problems, like getting a new HVAC system, dental loans, etc. But in order to keep some family sanity and something to look forward to we go to Disney for our vacation. We don't get to do anything else the whole year and this gives us something to look forward to. Just do the basics on tickets, etc. and just have fun!

A month after my sister died of leukemia, my travel buddy to Disney, I went on a January trip to the World with her two grown daughters, my nieces. We left the husbands home. We had the best time. We laughed and cried and remembered my sister and all the magic she always felt at Disney, and really appreciated the time there.

Is your HOA paying for your hotel? If so, maybe you can use that money to alleviate the cost of the possible trip.:)

Hopefully, though, your pipes will be fixed before Christmas.

If you have never been at Christmas-it's a must see and do.
The very first time I went was during Christmas and I still remember the "big" Christmas tree beside Cinderella Castle like it was yesterday...
Hope you can go...just magical...

I tried to reply last night, but was having problems connecting. We have decided to stay put. It was a fantastic idea, but reality set in. We have already moved our boys once. If we went we'd have to move them to another place in "sunny, warm" Florida and then come back to MA only to move into a hotel. It'll be too much stress and moving around for the kids.

HOA is paying for the hotel, eventually. We are waiting for the claim to be processed so we are paying for the hotel and will get reimbursed later, which is another reason to stay where we are.

I'll let you know if we change our minds. Who knows maybe a January trip will be in the works soon.

I agree!
You would have more fun if you waited until you have the $ to go.
That way, you could relax & maybe do some extra activities.

My Septic Line broke in my house and cost me 7 grand to fix and I lost out on the DVC because of it. I was not happy, but we ended up going to the world in Sept. because everything was booked already.

I feel your pain.

DH says last night we should go next week (he's on vacation any how) but we really can't. DS has school Monday (Santa's coming) and Friday (Christmas party) and both my boys have dr's appt's on Thursday so we'd really only be able to go for 2 days. Normally I'd jump at the chance to go, but so last minute, 3 hour plane rides and for only 2 days, I had to say it's probaby not the right time.

Still living in the hotel, luckily we have a 2 bedroom suite so at least there is some space. Also we do have maid service 3x a week which is nice. But there is no pool, well there is a pool but it's oudoors, seriously who in Massachusetts has an outdoor pool at a hotel?

A slightly similiar situation, in any case, it made us flee to Disney! When my children were young, my mother-in-law was watching them one beautiful day outside in the front. About 2 streets away, a gentleman locked his wife in the basement, went across the street, killed a family member, went to another home and killed a mother of a small boy and then went next door, into a home and killed a newly engaged couple trying to fix up a home they just bought. My Mother-in-law was all upset thinking that she had the kids outside during all this, but was more upset when we found out that we knew one of the people who were killed.
Anyway, we were so upset about this whole incident, that we booked a trip to Disney (after the viewings) and spent a week there trying to put out of our minds what happened at home.
Not a septic issue,, but a time where we felt that fleeing to Disney would be good for our whole family!!!

I say, leave the septic to the professionals and go to DISNEY!!! Update us on what you decide to do!!!

Unplanned trips are always fun but waiting until everything is taken care of might make it more enjoyable while your there. "No worries"

I'm always curious with stuff like this. What was the sewer problem, cracked line, tree root? Is it a newer house? Do they have to re-do the whole line?

PS, no need to reply if this drums up too many ill feelings.

The pipe completely split between our townhouse and the unit next door. They need to completly tear up my neighbor's basement in order to get to the pipe. They will not know how long it will take or if they need to tear up anyone else basement until the work begins which is suppse to be today. The way the pipe runs we are at the beginning so they should not need to tear up our basement.
