So Tempted

We had a major problem. A sewage pipe broke under our townhouse complex (luckily we didn't get any of the backup). In order to fix the pipe our water had to be turn off. We have been staying in a hotel and found out yesterday that it make take a month to fix. I am not happy about the thought of spending Christmas with my boys (almost 4 & 9months) in a hotel. We are now very tempted to go to WDW in order to regain some family sanity. We would be very strapped for cash, but the temptation is there. Has anyone else had something happen to them and say screw it let's go to WDW?

Wow talk about some bad luck! But I tend to agree with you about moving the kids again, though thats your own business, but maybe you should plan a trip that will take you directly from your hotel room to DW and straight back into your home...just a thought

In case anyone was wondering, we are still in the hotel and will be for at least 3 more weeks. There is issues with our condo association's insurance company. The issue is that the association wants the entire pipeline replaced and insurance company only wants to pay for the 2 units that need to be replaced. The intial damage was to the unit next door to us. We did get water under our basement floor so it needs to be drained and the floor replaced. The plumbers and floor company are ready to start work as soon as they get some money. We were told that it will take 2 weeks from the start of the job before enough of it is fixed that we can move back home.

Luckily my boys are finding this to be a bit of an adventure. We told 4yo DS that Santa finds us no matter where we are. Lucky for us too, that my cousin owns a pet hotel so our cat "Mufasa" is there getting plenty of attention while we are not home.

We are going to get through Christmas and then we might rethink the idea of a quickie trip to WDW in early January.

When we lived in the New Orleans area some friends of ours had gone to WDW for their end of summer fling. They were actually at Disney when Hurricane Katrina was forcast to hit the city. Needless to say, they stayed put at WDW. They ended up losing everything (besides the clothes they had on vacation). They are fine now, have pretty well recovered, and moved to Mississippi. Great family. Also DVC members. Love and miss my fellow Disney-Freaks from home. :)

We had our sons convinced for years that when you have a baby part of the information they give you at the hospital before you leave is Santa's private, parent-only phone number. When they asked what the number was we told them it was for parents only so they'd get it when they grew up and had kids. It helped to put them at ease when we celebrated Christmas at other relatives' homes knowing that Mom & Dad could contact the big guy anytime. Also, on days when they were unruly and Christmas was pretty close it was easy to pick up the cell phone and announce "That's it! I'm calling Santa right now!" That worked to straighten them out more than once. Plus, on one occasion it was hysterical fun for the DH who was on the other end of the conversation with 'Santa' to hear all about his 'naughty' boys. LOL!

DH used the cell phone to call Santa the other night at the mall when DS had a temper tantrum....My mom also told him that she has Santa's e-mail and would make sure to tell him that we are not home where the "water is broken."

So sorry to hear about your situation.
I can relate to what you are going through because i live 2 towns over from you and with the freezing temps and the 7 plus inches of snow on the ground it can't make it easy for you.
When my father passed away over 14 years ago we took our first family vacation together to WDW.Sounds like you are going to need the same after this.
Take care and keep us posted.
