So frustrated by rude people at Rainforest

The biggest problem is, that the staff at WDW restaurants don't actually have to give a crap about customer service because if you don't come back, there's a hundred other people ready to take your place, and a hundred people to take their place, and so on. Luckily for us 99% of WDW restaurant staff take their jobs very seriously and it's a pleasure to eat in their establishments. seems like RC have the attitude that if you're not happy with the service, tough, eat elsewhere.... and don't forget the tip....

In contrast to this we had a big problem of bad service at Mama Melrose which again ended up with me doing the irate shareholder speech at guest services. Not only was the matter quickly resolved and apologies from staff involved, we also got several hand written fastpasses from a special book at guest services. Now that's how to do it, RC take note.

However, don't eat at Mama Melrose if you're a Brit. the level of disrepect was quite stunning. I've never been treated like that anywhere at WDW in all the years we've been going. we thought we were at a re-enactment of the Boston Tea Party.....

In my eyes, it doesn't matter-the employees of RC are still representing WDW to guests who don't know otherwise. I work at a hotel and we lease out space to McCormick & Schmick's restaurant. Guests don't know that we aren't the owners-they don't know that we don't have any part of it except as renters. They get bad service and they complain to us. They see the workers parking on the lower levels of the garage and smoking at the front doors, they complain to us. And we have to smile and nod and apologize-because it is on our property. And then we have to go to their management and work something out. It's the same with RC and Disney. Bad service shouldn't be tolerated anywhere, least of all at WDW-where their service is known worldwide.

i agree but she should write to Landry's as well since Landry's owns the RC

Ugh, we had the worst server ever at Mama Melrose's once. She didn't show up for like 15 minutes and then when we asked a manger this surly woman suddenly shows up and is like, "I'm right HERE. You haven't been here for that long." Um. Yeah, that makes it okay. :lookaroun

We made priority seating arrangements at the Rainforest Cafe outside the Animal Kingdom. We were seated immediately and the place was nearly empty. We also had a 3 year old along and had spent a long day in the park. 10 minutes later our waitress was no where to be found so I found the manager and he said he'd take care of it. 10 minutes later, still no waitress. I went out to the hostess, pointed out where we were sitting and found out that the first hostess sat us in a section that was not assigned a waiter/waitress. Now I was ed, tracked down the manager, told him exactly what had happened and...nothing. No apology, no promise of a discount, nothing. We packed up and left and told him we were never coming back. He said, and I quote, "good." I'll never go back to the Rainforest Cafe.

Wow...now, I can understand at Dowtown Disney...because I've encountered poor service at their restaurants...but I have always had good service at the rainforest at AK...

You should have taken the managers name and complained to Disney...even if it isn't Disney owned, it's on Disney Property.... and I would think that they'd want to know.

We always go to the AK Rainforest. It's one of our family favorites. We love the food and the service is always good. I bet half of the negative posts here are from Wayne & Wendy Whiner.

While I feel bad for the ops bad encounter, I just want to address the whole, "these types, and this nationality" thing. I'm not going to ask what "type" was the group, but I just want to say this. It may seem that certain people tend to be more reckless than others, but I must say it falls into the stereoptype catagory. I must say, most adults may steroetype teens at WDW as being reckless or whatver, and while at times that may be true, it doesnt apply to all. Now in the ops situation, when he/she confronted the hostess, and she didnt do anything but steroetyped the people, I think the op should have addressed the people herself/himself.

Like someone mentioned before, you find rude/reckless people of all types and nationalities, and it doesnt exist in just one, or a majority of one. I just dont want the op to have a resentment for the people of the race she had the problem with.

I've eaten at RFC several times and have also noticed declining service. I haven't had any absolutely horrible experiences at the DTD one, but did have a bad experience in the AK one. In May 2003, my family ate there. There were 8 of us (my immediate family and my older brother and his family). We had a ps and were seated fairly quickly. It was early (AK hadn't closed yet, so it was probably between 4 and 5), so the restaurant wasn't busy. Our server came and took our orders somewhat timely, but then we waited over an hour for them to bring us our food. Drink refills? Forget it. We figured that they had no reason to care because gratuity is automatically added to groups of 8 or more. Not only did they not have to worry about losing our business, but the server knew they already had our tip too. Why work for a table when you're getting their money regardless of the quality of your service?

I'll never go back to the AK one, and I'm in no rush to return to the DTD one. I was last at the DTD one in July 2004 and the food/service was less than stellar.

My family had a similar experience. We had priority seating arrangements at the RFC in AK. They sat us pretty quickly but no waiter/waitress came. There was a table full of people next to us (I think it was a party of 10) but, other than that group, the section we were placed in was empty. That group was being waited on so we thought our waitress would be coming soon. When it had been a while and nobody had come, we tried to get the waitress of the table next to us attention, but she wouldn't even look at us. After about 40 minutes, a waitress set some bread on our table but kept moving and didn't say anything to us. After waiting there another 20 minutes, we just left.

Yep. Same here. Although I will say the last time we went, one family had their teenage son sleeping across 2 stools, and there was some drunk white trash, (or as I call them talking farm animals) but idiots will be idiots.

You should have demanded a refund of your money, or at the very least a free meal. Don't let the manager talk down to you. You are the customer and are 'always' right. You can get whatever you want if you feel your complaint is justified.

I know how you feel, I get those types once in a while.

First off, the customer is not always right or that you can get what ever you want. That is rude and unnecessary to think that way.
However, I do agree that their complaints are justified. If they feel that their complaints were not handled properly by the Manager, then they should contact the company directly and voice their complaints. You can access Rainforest Cafe at their website. http://www.rainforestcafe.com/
Go to the comment page and post your complaint. I am sure that

It is probably best left unsaid. No need to turn this thread into a racist/nationality debate. It has been on track and should stay that way.

Sure, it probably is better left unsaid...it's just that the wording seemed to hint at some kind of racism. Some people have already mentioned in this thread and many others like it on 'magic' that rudeness is not exclusive to one group of people from some country. You'll find them everywhere and in every group.

[ Has anyone else had this problem? We will not go back to rainforest, simply because of the mamagers attitude, not even an apology.[/quote] Sorry to hear what happened to you and your family. hats off to you though, i would not be able to handle my self in that setting. I would have exploded at the people sitting next to me and at the manager. What kind of manager just does nothing really????

The problem I have with Rain Forest Cafe is this:

The wait staff seems to just HIDE somewhere.
They come out of no where and take your order..then dissapear.
Then come out of no where and bring your food...then dissapear.
When you're done eating they come out of no where with your check.

If the order isn't correct or they forgot something it's nearly impossible to locate them to correct the problem.

It's like they have this secret hiding place they are watching you from..like a two way mirror or something.

The food was average but expensive.
You are definitely paying for the ombiance which is in my opinion cool...

BUT...we won't go back to Rain Forest Cafe until the wait staff learn how to make themselves more available to the customers and quit hiding.:lookaroun

We stay away from the WDW Rainforest (mainly because there are tons of better WDW restaurants). We go to the one here in NJ and it is much better than the one in WDW.

One nasty piece of non violent protest which works suprisingly well is simply stand outside, on public ground, and loudly tell any potential customers not to eat there and the reasons why. Excellent if you're waiting forever for food or you have rude staff or customers. See how quickly your problem gets resolved. If you're on public land there's not a thing they can do and if they want to TRY and throw you out, damned if I'd pay...

No, the customer is not always right, but they are always the customer and the fact that they are paying for good service and good food means they deserve a minimal amount of respect, at the VERY least.

We have eaten there twice now and I am the one that has always wanted to go. I dont remember us ever having bad service, but we are also the first to throw attitude right back at you. But I really do not remember ever getting into it there, or anywhere on Disney property. However, the two times that I have had food there I have gotten sick. I always order different meals and always feel terrible a few hours after.
I like the cheesy animal atmosphere but I dont like the parents that drag their kids to each animal and wait for it to move. I sat by the fish tank once and saw for little kids hitting the tank than I did fish. Maybe they should strap you to the chair, and then serve your food and hide
