So, last night my husband decided to put snow white in for our daughter to watch to unwind a bit before bed. (I am starting to worry he might be a bigger disney freak than me.....if that's possible....:p) Anyway, we were bantering back and forth about when snow white was made so I goggled it.......I found out some neat things about the movie that maybe some of you are not aware of (or maybe you are )

So here goes.......for those of you who don't know these tid bits....enjoy!
The follwing info was copied and pasted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_White_and_the_Seven_Dwarfs_(1937_film)

*While recording the voice of the Queen as the hag, Walt Disney was not happy with the voice Lucille La Verne was producing. After several retakes La Verne asked if she could go to the bathroom. When she returned and tried again to do the voice, she performed it perfectly. Amazed, Disney asked how she had achieved it. La Verne replied that she had removed her false teeth.

*The names of the Seven Dwarfs ("Bashful," "Doc," "Dopey," "Grumpy," "Happy," "Sleepy" and "Sneezy") were created for this production, chosen from a pool of about fifty potentials. The one name he always had in mind from the start was Grumpy, or something similar. Blabby, Jumpy, Shifty, and Snoopy were among those that were rejected, along with Awful, Baldy, Biggo-Ego, Biggy, Biggy-Wiggy, Burpy, Busy, Chesty, Cranky, Daffy, Dippy, Dirty, Dizzy, Doleful, Flabby, Gabby, Gloomy, Goopy, Graceful, Helpful, Hoppy, Hotsy, Hungrey, Jaunty, Lazy, Neurtsy, Nifty, Puffy, Sappy, Sneezy-Wheezy, Sniffy, Scrappy, Silly, Soulful, Strutty, Stuffy, Sleazy, Tearful, Thrifty, Tipsy, Titsy, Tubby, Weepy, Wistful, and Woeful.

*Snow White was one of only two animated films to rank in the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films of all time in 1997 (the other being Disney's Fantasia), ranking number 49. It achieved a higher ranking (#34) in the list's 2007 update, this time being the only traditionally animated film on the list. The following year AFI would name the film as the the greatest animated film of all time

*It has been well documented that Adolf Hitler watched this film with a roomful of children, and was delighted by Disney's adaptation of the German fairy tale. Hitler supposedly offered Disney anything he wanted in exchange for Disney's creation of feature-length animated features in Germany. Though this is the basis for the Walt Disney as a Nazi rumors, Disney's biographer Bob Thomas proves that Disney declined Hitler's invitation, and in fact soon entered production on such anti-German projects as Der Fuehrer's Face and Victory Through Air Power

So I just found some of these facts interesting....enjoy!

Another thing I learned from the given links... Victory Through Air Power was released 65 years ago today.

Only a few of these names are correct. Here is the correct list of dwarf names. Source: Walt Disney - Triumph the American Imagination by Neal Gabler (pg. 220)

"His first order of business, after he and the staff had established the basic lineaments of the story, was naming the dwarfs. The initial list included Scrappy, Cranky, Dirty, Awful, Blabby, Silly, Daffy, Flabby, Jaunty, Biggo Ego, Chesty, Jumpy, Baldy, Hickey ('always hiccoughing at the wrong moment'), Gabby, Shorty, Nifty, Wheezy, Sniffy, Burpy, Lazy, Puffy, Dizzy, Stuffy, and Tubby, along with Grumpy, Happy, Doc, Bashful and Dopey, which would make the final cut, though not without considerably more scrutiny."

I realize they left out Sneezy and Grumpy but I was quoting the book.

By the way, I am directing a non-Disney version of the stage play next weekend! http://www.stagecrafters.org/index.php3?show=141

I'd love to know (considering how monumental it was when it was released) where Snow White falls on the list of top box office gross if we adjust for inflation. Tickets cost so little compared to what they did when Titanic, or Spiderman debuted and blew the box office gross top spots away....

I'd have to believe Snow White would be near the top:shrug:
